After recently moving to Oakland, NJ, I wanted to create a group of muslim families in Bergen County and surrounding areas, so we can get together and form a community of friends. I'm the mom of two little girls, age 3 and 1 1/2 and am hoping to find some playmates for them and good friends for me and my husband. I have lots of ideas for events and activities and am looking to meet people with similar interests. Ideally we can enough people interested to coordinate:

Family potluck dinners

Mom's Night Out (dinner, movie, anything!)

Dad's Night Out (watching/playing sports, playing video games,etc)

Kid's activities/outings including going to parks, museums, etc.

Book Club-no specific genre, all books are welcome!

Cooking Club-themed potluck dinners on a monthly basis where we all try new recipes

Halaqas-for anyone interested in learning more about Islam without any fear or embarassment

Discussions-ask questions, get information or advice, start a topic on the discussion pages

Community Involvement-help out with charitable organizations in the area

Basically, this group can be anything we want it to be! This Muslim Family Network would consist of people who are open to each other, want to learn more about Islam and want a group who share the same core beliefs in raising our children to be good muslims as well as become better muslims ourselves. For people who just moved to the area, or for reverts to Islam, or even for those who are just hoping to meet some nice people, this group will be the answer inshAllah!
