Elder-Fehn is a balloon-shaped trail located in the Catamount Ranch Open space in Teller County. The trail offers great views of Pikes Peak to the south. From the trail head follow the well-marked trail as it starts climbing up through a mixed forest. Descent into a valley through few switchbacks. About 1.2 miles later you will reach the loop at the end of the trail. After you finish the loop you can backtrack to your starting point. Alternatively you can return via Vayhinger trail. This will take you down to the Ring the Peak trail as it follows utilities dirt road to the North Catamount Reservoir. Before you reach the reservoir turn left on Limber Pines trail and return the the trail head.
Length: 5.5 mile loop.
You are responsible for your dog's safety as well as your own. We are walking in/around nature. So be prepared for what it may present: rattlesnakes, rabbits, dead animals, bones, leftover bits of humanity (fencing, cans/bottles, etc). We want this and every hike to be fun, but also for everyone to be safe as well.
Directions: Take US-24 west. Turn left on Edlowe Road / County Road 28. Drive for 3 miles on a dirt road. Parking lot / trail head will be on your left
Where to meet:
Rudy's on 24. We'll meet in the parking lot. From here we can carpool and/or caravan the rest of the way.
* if you are coming from another direction, let me know, and I can call/text you when we are close to the destination. Sandy[masked]
