Section 16 Trailhead

I haven't done this one, so I hope it is well marked! ;) O chose 8am because it looks pretty popular.

Difficulty is moderate because of the uphill in the beginning.

This was a tough one! Up, up, up! 3ish miles up and 3ish miles down. Very beautiful, though. Nice waterfall in the middle. It might be easier in the other direction. (BTW, Sesame trail is closed.)

GPS showed about 7 miles of walking, trail (and road) distance for loop was 5.9 miles.
Elevation at the overlook where we stopped at the top of the steep ascent was 7690, the high point of 7850 was on the trail a bit after that. Low point was 6630 ft where Bear Creek Road and Lower Gold Camp Road meet. Verified elevations with topographic map since there was some question of altitude at the overlook we stopped at.
The fence was not a divider between section 16 and Pikes National Forest as it is well within forest land, so no guess as to the fence's history.

Chris, there are two parking areas on Gold Camp Rd. The first one you come to is the trail that leads into Red Rock Canyon. Second one is the connection to Section 16. I'll be there with my new Border Collie. The little ones are staying home today.

The map implies the trailhead is at the first parking lot.

I don't think so. Better bring water.

Last time I did this trail there was a small waterfall about halfway around. It's a tough one though and you should definitely carry water for you and your dog.

Great trial, but I don't think Elsa's ready for one this tough yet. Have fun!

definitely no water on this hike. It's a bit up, then a nice spot for a rest and overlook ....then a nice long down (depending on how you go down). It is a popular one.
