Lizard Rock

It states it's easy to moderate in difficulty, and is 5 miles roundtrip (estimated 2-3 hours roundtrip walk). The trail goes onto a loop which is a total 15 miles roundtrip (7-10 hrs roundtrip walk).

I'm not up for the big commitment, just yet. I can do the 5 miles tho. I did check a website, and this was not one of the sites that said dogs needed to be leashed while walking, but just in case, you might want to bring one (you never know if the websites are up-to-date).

Where to Meet: let's meet at Rudy's off Rt 24.  We can carpool/caravan from there.

Getting there: Take US 24 west from Colorado Springs for 37 miles to Lake George and turn right onto County Road 77. Travel 12.8 miles and turn right into Spruce Grove Campground. The trailhead is located at the Spruce Grove Campground, off of the Tarryall Road (City Rd 77) . Park at the Trailhead Parking, outside the campground.

The trail: Walk through the campground (stay right on loop) , pass the outhouse and across the bridge over Tarryall Creek.  After the bridge, make a hard left, passing through a boulder tunnel, to start on the Lizard Rock Trail. From what I've read the trail is gentle ups and downs through an open meadow with views of rock formations. Around mile 2, switchbacks and a steeper grade occur. Then at/near the Lizard rock, you "scramble steeply for 0.25 miles". Once at the rock, there are 360 degrees views of Lost Canyon Wilderness.

I don't want you guys waiting at all at the trail head for me this morning. Slept about 3 hours - not enough for the drive or the hike. :-( Have fun!

Hello! Since we will be leaving from WP, what time do you plan on arriving at the trail head? Supposedly it will take us about 55 minutes from here.

We could ...Suzanne...would that work for you? If so, contact me with your cell. I don't have it currently. [masked]-8922. Or we'll look for you at the trailhead.

Brenda & Sandy, thanks for your suggestions w/the trip to Lizard Rock Trail. I feel confident that I can find it and I don't want you all to have to stop in WP to wait for us just in case we don't see each other. So we will just plan on arriving at the trailhead about 9:45 as well. Look forward to seeing everyone and going on a new hike! For your contact info, here is my cell #[masked]/home[masked] (which is the best one if not on the road).

Hey guys, my Pitbull who was staying with my mother-in-law was getting bit by their dog, so I had to bring him home yesterday. I need to find him a good home as soon as possible. He is a 4 year old Blue/Brindle Pitbull. He is neutered and is people friendly and loves to be around kids. He can be dog aggressive sometimes so I would want to give him to someone who does not have any other dogs. I also have a full 35 lbs. bag of dog food that can go with him. If you guys know of anyone who would like to take him or would like more information my number is[masked]

I've only done this once before, but I don't recall any steep scrambling. At the last 20 feet there is a little climbing through rocks to get to the top of Lizard Rock (which is really worth it). It is not hard - all depends on the pace!
