It states it's easy to moderate in difficulty, and is 5 miles roundtrip (estimated 2-3 hours roundtrip walk). The trail goes onto a loop which is a total 15 miles roundtrip (7-10 hrs roundtrip walk).
I'm not up for the big commitment, just yet. I can do the 5 miles tho. I did check a website, and this was not one of the sites that said dogs needed to be leashed while walking, but just in case, you might want to bring one (you never know if the websites are up-to-date).
Where to Meet: let's meet at Rudy's off Rt 24. We can carpool/caravan from there.
Getting there: Take US 24 west from Colorado Springs for 37 miles to Lake George and turn right onto County Road 77. Travel 12.8 miles and turn right into Spruce Grove Campground. The trailhead is located at the Spruce Grove Campground, off of the Tarryall Road (City Rd 77) . Park at the Trailhead Parking, outside the campground.
The trail: Walk through the campground (stay right on loop) , pass the outhouse and across the bridge over Tarryall Creek. After the bridge, make a hard left, passing through a boulder tunnel, to start on the Lizard Rock Trail. From what I've read the trail is gentle ups and downs through an open meadow with views of rock formations. Around mile 2, switchbacks and a steeper grade occur. Then at/near the Lizard rock, you "scramble steeply for 0.25 miles". Once at the rock, there are 360 degrees views of Lost Canyon Wilderness.
