Hornsby Bend Bird Observatory - Austin, Texas

Join us Saturday, August 16th at Hornsby Bend Bird Observatory.  This location is excellent for macro and bird photography.  This location is outstanding for butterflies and odonates.  There should also be some nice southbound migrants at Hornsby this time of year.  Orioles, shorebirds, and wading birds should be around the ponds.

Bring your long lenses and/or macro equipment.  We will start on the wastewater treatment plant side and then go to the Platt Lane location (the gate there doesn't open until 8:00 a.m.).

Bring water and good shoes!

I had a GREAT time today meeting everyone and shooting. Attendance was awesome and I can't wait until the next meetup. I will post details soon. I hope everyone will post some of their best photos from today. At the upper right of this page you see some images with an "upload" notification and that is how you can share.

I had truly planned to go, but my allergies got the best of me. Lee, if you would like us to notify you somehow, by calling or texting, let us know. I would hate for anyone to wait for me if I'm not going to show up.

The plan for tomorrow is to meet at the parking area at 7:00 a.m. and then make our way back to the bird shelter parking area and then work the river trail for a while After that, any that want, may go with me to the Platt Lane Trail and photograph that location as well. BRING DRINKING WATER as it will be warm!

Jeff - sorry to hear about transmission! Jennifer - you may stay as long as you wish. I find I am generally through there by 11:00 a.m. unless it is overcast or there are just a bunch of dragonflies/Robber Flies/Damselflies I am still seeing I want to photograph. You may come or go whenever you need to!

Tami - Hornsby probably isn't a good place then unless you just bring a chair and sit near one of the ponds or something. In general there is a lot of walking.

Lee, how much walking is necessary? I want to bring my friend, but she can't walk around too much (back problems).

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
