Black & White or HDR Photography @ Enchanted Rock State Park

Well, let's challenge ourselves and we will stay until mid-day at least so we can find out just how much fun B&W &/or HDR Photography can be. You may think the ONLY time to shoot is the "golden hour" but did you know that many of the best B&W shots are taken during the day? Whatever it is you want to shoot, the only photos we will be able to post from the trip will be in B&W or HDR!! So, bring your tripods, your sense of adventure and some water!

You will NOT want to be late because the park OFTEN closes after a certain number of people arrive.  They do this to protect the park.  I may very well camp there the night before.

I've driven by Enchanted Rock but never photographed it. I noticed a refreshing lack of overdone HDR post processing in the captures.

    I'm mostly an HDR cheater.
(single RAW image duplicated with one +2 and one -2 f/stops or, worst of all, via a single image Matt Kloskowski LR filter with liberal application of brush touch-ups. lol!! )

    Case in point:

I would have liked to go but I may sound like a wimp's too hot. Hopefully, I will get another chance in the near future.

Looks like I won't make it there tonight, but be there very early for some early morning shooting Possibly around 4:30 to 5:00 am or so. Meet me at 7:00 a.m. at the parking area for the picnic ground due northeast of the park headquarters. Look for the blue Buick Terraza Minivan with Big Bend License Plates.

I am definitely camping out there Friday night (possibly Saturday as well). Anyone wanting to come out early, I may be up VERY early for some night photography after moon sets.

Todd, I always shoot in RAW which captures color by default and that way I start with the most information possible. I convert in Silver Effex Pro 2.0 from LR 5. You can camp in the park as well, but I would recommend checking online to see if you can get reservations if camping (which I might as well). Also, the closest town to stay would be Llano or Fredericksburg depending.

Lee, do you shoot B&W or convert in post? Also, where would you recommend staying in the area if we chose to leave Friday evening? I remember seeing a KOA in the area.

Sorry I won't be able to make it - turns out the "better half" has other plans for me. 8-(

Now Jessica, there are two things we NEVER say as outdoor photographers. First, it is too early! Second, we don't like bacon!! ; ) I would say closer to 1:45 to get there from around downtown Austin. or so.

I would really like to come but I'm not sure I can get up that early! Is it like an hour and a half away?

Looks like fun, but I'll be traveling that weekend.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
