This is one of East TN's great spectacles. And according to the folks at the Roan Mountain State Park office today, we've timed it just right!
Plan is to meet at the top of the mountain in the Carver's Gap parking lot. That way, we can carpool "up" the rest of the way to the gardens. $3/vehicle. As always, please check back here the day before the event in case any last-minute adjustments have been made to this plan. Hoping for a nice foggy morning.
Nora and I will be staying in Johnson City with family the night before. For those driving up from the Knoxville area the morning of, please feel free to coordinate here on the site for carpooling. See you there!

In a natural setting of rich meadows of rare moss and heather, surrounded by forests of evergreen balsam, and crowned overhead by the bluest of blue skies, the gardens are breath-taking in their beauty. Towering above the Appalachian valleys, the gardens are often actually above the clouds, giving rise to the name "Cloudland."
And now a quote from Dr. Elisha Mitchell (for whom Mt. Mitchell is named)
"It is the most beautiful of the high mountains... with Carolina at its feet on one side and Tennessee on the other, and a green ocean of mountains rising in tremendous billows around her."
