Lets go on a hike after a fresh layer of snow! It will snow a little on Friday and Saturday, so Sunday will be the perfect time to go. This way we can capture snowy landscapes but not worry about changing lenses in the elements.
We will be hiking the Hawk Falls trail. This trail is very easy. There is 1 tall waterfall, multiple creeks, and some beautiful scenery. Meet and park at the Hawk Falls trail parking lot at[masked], -75.634509. We could probably hike and photograph this trail in about an hour.
If we are up for more (and warm enough!) after Hawk Falls, we can hike or drive to the Boulder Field. Driving would be easier. The Boulder Field Trail is 3.5 miles of moderately rocky terrain, but there is potential for interesting wildlife along the way. It is estimated to be 4-5 hours "round trip" hike, but there are other way of getting back that would be faster than retracing steps. The start of the trail is across from the Hawk Falls parking lot. If we drove to the Boulder Field parking lot, there is a 2.4 mile easy trail, the Stone Trail, to the Boulder Field.
Be sure to bring water, snacks, and dress in warm layers! Hand warmers would be good too!
*Put the parking lot GPS coordinates into your driving map. [masked], [masked]) If you put in "Hickory Run State Park" it will bring you to the office, which adds on about 30 extra minutes driving time.
