Slow Bicycle Ride-Cross the State, Kentucky to Alabama State Line -3 Days,162 Mi

Always wanted to cross our state by bicycle? Me too. (The short and easy way.) Here's our chance - FOGBEE Bicycle Club, Walk/Bike Tennessee, and other dedicated cyclists have put together an event to do just that, using the newly created USBR-23 official bike route. This is a free event.

Each participant will make their own arrangements, but with the benefit of having the route, time table, accompanying riders, and a sag wagon all provided for you. This should make it a fun and (relatively) easy adventure.

Visit Walk/Bike Nashville's website (or see the Newsletter that Carey Rogers recently posted) to register for the event, or get more details. The FOGBEE site also has excellent detailed information. They have done a fantastic amount of work and put together a wonderful plan. It is setup so that each rider can as short or long a section they wish, up to a 6 day looping out and back if they want. My plan is to simply start at the KY state line, riding Thurs., Fri., and Saturday, and take the van back from Ardmore Alabama back to Nashville Saturday night.

When we get closer to departure we can plan out exactly how we want to arrange our tour, and lay out our driving, ride sharing, etc.  See you there!

I have to apologize... this adventure was advertised as 'easy', but it was more like 'hard'.
However, everything else was even better than advertised... I wouldn't trade the experience for anything - see you next year!

    McBurg... isn't that near Townville?

Definitely in on this! I'd been wanting to do longer rides ever since I'd moved here and this is an excellent opportunity.

I was planning on doing the downtown Nashville leg on Saturday. But now I'm going to spend the morning (day?) at the MVA. This is INCREDIBLY frustrating to not be able to attend. Have fun, folks!

Through a series of terrible miscalculations of schedule, vacation days, and MVA availability (as in, they're not open on Saturdays at all), I'm still not able to attend. I realize now that I certainly could have planned with a little more effort (except for the part where I lost my driver's license this week). Sorry to have made all these mistakes... I'll have to tackle this route at another time.

Well, tomorrow is the day. Get your details from the FOGBEE site and we'll see ya at the starting line.
There are 34 riders signed up - and great weather is predicted for the whole weekend - hello Alabama!

Update: Over 30 riders have now registered (it's free!) for this ride (on the FogBees site). If you are planning to make this adventure, please register with them (the link is in comments below) to help them with logistics and planning. Remember, you don't have to ride the whole thing, just join us for a day or a half day if you want to. Don't worry some of us (ok, me) will be riding slow. (By slow I mean 10-12mph average.) See Ya!
