AWS Instance in one meeting

  • Why buy a private virtual server from a typical web host (as ) when it seems one can do it via one of these big cloud computing providers and then also have potential super-scalability! --yes, some provide common OSes, as . Only thing seems to be is getting started is a bit more complex (including also buying & hooking-up cloud storage as ) though possibly not more costly, say if you use Amazon which has no minimum & seems like it could be about the same price.

SO HOW ABOUT A MEETUP WHERE WE ACTUALLY DO IT? --"Setup a PHP web app (as WordPress Multisite) on Amazon EC2 cloud", from first signing up with Amazon & entering credit card info to your "Welcome to WordPress. This is your first post".

BTW: this is an idea I got after reading of the great meeting today Amazon EC2 then reading more.

I'm the Product Marketing Director at Morphlabs, and we'd love to participate in this meeting by showcasing our mCloud On-Demand solution. mCloud On-Demand works with Amazon EC2 to simplify cloud setup and the application deployment process. It would be interesting to do a side-by-side comparison using native Amazon EC2 vs. mCloud On-Demand too.

I've led this type of workshop a number of times at BarCamps, SCALEs, and LUGs. Since brand new AWS accounts sometimes take a day to get approved, you need to have the participants perform in advance the basic registration and signing up for EC2.
