"10 Marathons in 10 Months, in 10 Hours"
Marathon No. 2 - March 2014
The North Downs way is a long distance footpath through Surrey to the Kent Coast at Dover. It is 156 miles long, including a loop via Canterbury at the eastern end.
This walk follows a 26 mile (41.8km) section of the North Downs Way (NDW) south east of London, along the edge of the North Downs Escapement. The walk is very rural despite finishing in "Zone 6". It has fine views to the south, and some pretty woods.
Escape the hustle and bustle of London to discover inspirational landscapes and a peaceful walk along the North Downs Way.
With spectacular downland views, and within the M25 from Box Hill to Knockholt, the North Downs Way is the perfect way to provide superb walking experiences amongst the finest landscapes in the country.
The dramatic landscapes of the North Downs have long inspired artists, poets and writers ranging from J. M.W.Turner to Jane Austen and Charles Dickens. Charles Darwin and Winston Churchill lived close to the Downs and were also moved by the landscape.
The walk starts from Box Hill station and heads up Box Hill, which is the perfect place to discover and explore the beautiful Surrey Hills. Forming part of the North Downs. Box Hill has breath-taking views across the surrounding countryside with many fine viewpoints.
We will end the walk in Knockholt were we will take a bus to Caterham (on the edge of zone 6). The end of the walk (bus and train) is within Zone 6, so you can use a 1-day Travel / Oyster card for your return journey.
