Hike the Eno--Bridge to Bridge!

Have you ever hiked along the Eno all the way from Roxboro Road to Guess Road? Well Sunday is the day to do this >4 mile out and back scenic trail!  We'll meet at the river by the old mill house at West Point on the Eno--cross over the pedestrian bridge and head up the river at a moderate to quick pace on the Eagle Trail and continue on the Mountains to Sea Trail until we reach the Guess Road bridge, where barn swallows are currently nesting. Recent rains have brought high water and downed trees on the the trail near the Guess Road bridge so be prepared to go off the trail a bit and climb over a large tree or two. After resting at the bridge for a few minutes we'll head back and for those who are willing, pick up trash/debris along the way. A prize will be awarded for the best trash-picker-upper (to be voted on by the group).

Total hike will be about 4.25 miles, the trails are relatively flat (total elevation gain is 187 feet), but we'll need to climb down a few rocks in one place and there is another spot on the way back where we'll do a stream crossing on large rocks (you may want to have your walking stick w/you).

If we are lucky we might see some beavers, turtles, snakes, fish, great blue herons, woodpeckers and more.  Won't take much luck to encounter poison ivy so you may want to wear long pants or high socks.

What else to bring? Water bottle, closed toe shoes, binoculars if you have 'em, camera. Wear your bathing suit if you want to cool off in the river when we are done! Don't forget to apply the sunscreen and bug spray before we head out.

All participants on Sierra Club outings are required to sign a standard liability waiver.

Park at far right "P" in the map below. We'll meet near the yellow dot above the P.

I'd like to join you, and I've had trouble finding the meeting spot on the Eno River before. Will someone have a cell phone? Elaine
