3.2 Mile Quarry Hike and Eat/Play at Sharky's!

Join us for a 3.2 mile moderate hike along the relatively new section of the Mountains To Sea/Laurel Ridge Trail, up and around the beautiful Durham Quarry, and back.  Wear closed-toe hiking or walking shoes and bring a water bottle for the hike.  For those who dare--swimmers and dippers--wear your bathing suit, bring your river shoes and a towel if you want to take a dip in the quarry or the river!  The quarry is DEEP water and appropriate for strong swimmers ONLY.  There are also spots along the river right beside quarry to get wet/dip your feet in.

There is likely to be a good bit of party-trash around the quarry so bring a bag if you are willing to help clean up a bit (Ieader will have extras, too).

Click here for more info about the Quarry and surrounding trails.

After the hike (which will take at least 1.5 hrs), hungry folks will head on over to Sharky's Eat & 8 (formerly Durham Pizzeria) for some good grub.  Selections include appetizers (sweet potato fries for $3.25) salads (dinner salad $3.50, Chef Salad $8.50), pizza (10" small plain for $6.25, 18" large for $11, toppings extra) , sandwiches, and Italian favorites (Chicken Parmigiana $9.95). Full menu to be posted soon! Pool hall and bar are now open, as well.

All participants on Sierra Club outings are required to sign the standard Sierra Club liability waiver/photo release form.  We'll meet at the Pleasant Green Access parking area and leave no later than 4:40pm. Please arrive early to sign in.

We are asking for a suggested donation of $3 per outing participant to help support and grow our North Carolina Outings Program. Funds will be used for expenses approved by our Chapter Outings Committee like helping to provide high quality training to our volunteer outings leaders and to keep out of pocket expenses (e.g., required first aid training) for our volunteers at a minimum.  This donation is completely optional.  At the end of our hike we will pass around an envelope for those who want to make a contribution.

Contact the leader, Kelly Mieszkalski ([masked],[masked]) with any questions.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
