Being new to NC Powerdown, is there literature that I could have picked up somewhere and handed out to provided the participants more information about NC Powerdown and the enormous energy demands our current food supply requires?

It is beneficial towards educating people about the oil situation and what can be done towards using less oil and using more alternative methods for energy.

This was the 2nd event I have attended. Perhaps a little off topic unless one can utilize Cherokee Purples as a fuel source. But wait - maybe that would be my bike or perhaps my KEDs.

To learn about energy policy and alternatives, lifestyle changes; to organize to change govt policy, and to build community through interacting with others with similar goals.

If you want to work on a particular aspect of Carrboro becoming a sustainable community: transportation, grant writing, Vision 2020, local food production, or get up to par about drafting/changing ordinances.

People need to work together to address problems of energy depletion; the people in this group are actively working toward answers. They also seem like pretty cool people.

We are likely to look back upon the summer of 2008 as the last of 'the way life used to be'.

     1) Never talked with others in the group so not really knowledgeable. 2) Seeking alternative (thrivalist?) strategies. Investigating power and other strategies. 3) Not sure a "train wreck" will occur but surely the middle class will bleed out and America will look like China in a decade or two unless the Aristocracy loses somehow. I suspect the Middle Class is a historical aberration; thus, my focus is not on how to save America but how to organize for a New America. Very similar to what the High Schooler said. I don't think America is salvageable with 95% of the sheeple voting along for The Party. I am very frustrated to hear people knock capitalism. Capitalism is what makes beach cottages rentable to every person. Oil monopolies are not capitalism. The USA is not a Capitalistic Democracy but a Corporate Aristocracy. Capitalism is the natural state of most small towns. Just take a trip to a less government-controlled country and see. Still looking forward to meeting the group.

It seems that the group is still organizing(mission???), website...etc. The members of the group are very knowledgeable. Maybe a packet for first time attendees(Standard handouts, cd's..etc.) I would be willing to help develop these packets, etc. if needed.
