Sandy Smith-Nonini

Come join Steve and Rebekah Hren, authors of The Carbon-Free Home, in a workshop, with slides, on how to build your own, affordable solar air heater, which can be mounted on a roof or wall. These boxes, which come in a variety of designs, save energy in winter and many models have a rapid payback.

$5/rec. donation; free for unemployed or students

Drinks provided, potluck on munchies, BYOB

(We now have a heater in EcoLounge - but need to build us one of these solar babies; there's a vent to the (flat) roof right over our meeting space!)

Hi T: No, Steve is making a set of slides - I also asked them to bring materials or partially-built heater if they had it for demo, but not sure what they have at hand. I wish we were building one at present -- Maybe soon! A group of us is meeting this afternoon about doing a Green Job/Entrepreneurship training grant -- w/ 2 other NGOs -- so a core team on this is moving ahead! See you 12/3! SS

Good presentation on a very worthwhile 'technology'.
    •  Was helpful to hear from Steve & Rebekah on their experiences installing pre-made solar heat units, and suggestions for parts and design for DIY. We are tentatively planning a 2nd more "hands-on" workshop to actually build one (and install in EcoLounge!). But Steve wants to experiment w/ a prototype first, so likely dates are early Feb. Stay tuned for detail. If you want to join the team to participate on that project email me, so I can consult w/ you on timing - scsmith @ email.unc.edu.
    •  keep these kind of workshops coming. great presentation thanks for doing this.
    •  Stephen and Rebekah are great role models for living sustainably. They provided excellent information, clear pictures of systems and installations; the next step is a hands-on workshop to actually build one so we're not so cold at the Eco-Lounge!!.
    •  Useful. Helps with brainstorming potential solutions for heating.
    •  As near as I could tell, 1404 Angier Ave is a vacant lot. I could find nothing in the area that looked like anything was going on - just borded up houses and an old church. I called the phone number on the event but no answer. Sorry to have missed it.
    •  The program was an elementary pass of solar stuff. However it did not address building a solar space heater. I was a bit disappointed at that. Did meet interesting folks and pick up a couple of hopefully relivant url's. A sign up list was taken as a basis for a list serve on solar space heater 'building'.
