Genetically Engineered Foods: An Overview

Genetically engineered (GE) crops now constitute the majority of corn, cotton and soybean crops grown in the country, and most non-organic processed foods containing sweeteners, oils or preservatives are made from GE ingredients. Biotechnology firms have also developed genetically engineered animals, including hogs and salmon. Since GE foods are unlabeled and untested, many questions remain about what the marketing of GE foods means for our health, the environment and farmers. Join us to hear Renée Maas, NC Campaign Coordinator with Food & Water Watch, who will offer an overview of GE foods and their impact on society. $5 suggested donations

Food & Water Watch is a consumer advocacy organization working to ensure the food, water and fish we consume is safe, accessible and sustainably produced. Renée has a master's degree in public policy with an emphasis in water resource management and a minor in sustainable agriculture.
