NC Powerdown February Meetup

Feb 2006 8
Wed 8:00 PM
Description

NC Powerdown meetings will happen in Raleigh (7pm), Durham (7pm), and Carrboro (8pm) this Weds., February 8th (see location info at end of message). Two items are on the agenda. The first is the crafting of an energy descent plan for our various communities. The second is to plan for our upcoming peak oil conference on Wed. March 25th at Duke's Love Auditorium. The next meeting will be held together at one location so we can plan for the conference and see how the other groups are doing.

Energy Descent

Based on the model laid out by the Kinsale Energy Descent Action Plan. The essential idea is to create actions and infrastructure locally that people interested in lowering their energy use can tap into. The first aspect of this is to identify the status quo of our daily energy use. This can be broken down into broad categories, such as Food, Transportation, Housing, etc. The second goal should be to identify existing local alternatives to the status quo. And the third goal should be specific concrete proposals that individuals and groups can work on to facilitate the energy descent of the their communities. Perusing the Kinsale example should help generate ideas.

Hope you can make it! Email or call if you have questions.

Sincerely,
Stephen Hren

Conference

The conference planning is going well, but Peter Taylor and I need help getting the word out about it. We also want to invite as many public officials from our region who could stand to hear the peak oil message as possible. The Director of the State Energy Office, Larry Shirley, has agreed to give the keynote speech introducing the topic. It would help if folks could generate specific people (ie, names and addresses or emails) that should be invited. Also, any other groups that we could ask to spam their email lists. We're going to have some fliers printed up and bring them to the March 8th meeting for folks to take and put up.
