This program is almost as cool as Stan Hywet Shakespeare. Akron, initially with Ohio Ballet, has been presenting free to residents of NE Ohio a series of professional contemporary modern dance performances each summer for 40 years. It is believed to be the longest running civic outdoor dance venue series in the US. This year there are 4 weekends with 4 different dance companies at 4 different parks.
Our chosen weekend and night is Sat. Aug. 3 to see one of the most respected companies in Ohio, GroundWorks. Just as cool as the company, the huge stage and performance will be at one of Akrons oldest and most historic cemeteries, Glendale... at NIGHT! The cemetery performance is now an annual event. Google Heinz Poll Summer Dance Festival for more history and Glendale Cemetery for location detail (it is one block west of Market and Main).
We will meet in the parking lot at 6:15 - 6:30. Look for a silver Mylar balloon. >Bring a lawn chair! The group will adjourn to Rocknes for a bite to eat and a cold one. I will take all of the chairs to the stage area to be set up in front, after which Ill join you at Rocknes. We will head back to the cemetery at 8:15ish for the 8:45 performance, to walk down to and sit in front. Sweeet!
If you come directly to Rocknes, you are welcome but your seat wont be placed. Same if you arrive at the cemetery after 6:30; place your own chair where you want it.
I wager this will be the second coolest evening you will remember from this summer.
