This is a joint Meet-Up with the Central Ohio Hikers and Backpackers.
This is one of my favorite hiking trails in Ohio.
This is one of my favorite hiking trails in Ohio. I'm hoping this date will be in the middle of the peak fall colors.

The following is the route we took last time, but I may change it up so the easier portion is towards the end of the hike.
Start at the top of Pleasant Hill Dam, walk down the hill to the trail along the river to the Covered Bridge. There are restrooms here if anyone needs them. We will continue along this side of the river into the campground and follow it to the Hemlock Gorge trail, which we will take until we get to another campground. We will take the Upper Hemlock Trail loop and then take a small snack break at the campground shower house. I believe these will be open and there are restrooms and sinks where you could potentially refill your water if needed. We'll then cross the road bridge and hop on the bike trail to the right. When we get close to the hiking trail we will do a short (10 feet) bushwhacking hike and get on that. This will put us on the Big Ass hill. Once we hike these two hills we will wait for the rest of the group to catch up and catch their breath. We will continue to the Fire Tower where we will take another short break. Then it is mostly downhill till we get to the bridge once again. Then on to Big Lyon Falls, Little Lyon Falls, and back to the dam.
The total distance for this hike should be just short of 15 miles. This is a moderate hike, so be prepared to hike at a 2.5 mph speed. You'll want to be sure to have good hiking shoes or boots. It should take approximately 6-7 hours to complete. Be sure to bring plenty of water, snacks, and dress according to the weather. We'll hike rain or shine. If you do not bring a least 2 litters of water I will ask you to not hike with us. I know this sounds a bit extreme, but I have had people hike a shorter version of this last year with us and had to give up my supply of water. Please do not be that person.
For those that like to know, there is a restroom at the Dam parking lot. The next restrooms will be at the Covered Bridge, then at the Campgrounds, and then again at the Covered bridge when we pass it the second time. There is water available at the campgrounds. But this IS well water and some people don't like the taste of that (It does have a very strong sulfur odor). So make sure to account for whether you will refill or carry all the water you will need.
After the hike, we will eat somewhere nearby. This, of course, is optional for those who like to be social. :-)
Most likely it will be at the El Campesino Restaurante Mexicano. They seem to be able to handle large crowds fairly easy.
