Emerald Necklace Hikers @ Mill Stream Run Reservation

Formally called "For Women Only" hiking series, the name is now changed to Emerald Necklace Hikers, and that means this hike is open to everyone which includes the "men" :-).

The Emerald Necklace Hikers is a naturalist led hike put on by the Cleveland Metroparks. Our naturalist is named Jenny. What is great about naturalist led hikes is all the neat things that are pointed out. If you have any questions about what you see, hear or spot on the hike feel free to ask the naturalist.

This is a LEISURELY paced hike.

Don’t feel comfortable navigating the trails on your own? Join us for this monthly hiking series to explore the trails throughout the Emerald Necklace while we get some exercise and enjoy each other's company. This month we’ll use the Royalview Trails to enjoy the winter woods. Please check the website to see if the trail is open; if it is not, this hike will be cancelled. http://www.clevelandmetroparks.com/Main/Royalview-Mountain-Bike-Trail.aspx

We will meet at Royalview Trailhead.

Please view the map for location of the start of the trailhead:

Wear appropriate shoes (boots), yak tracks and clothing. It is winter time so expect the trails to have snow, ice, mud and whatever else winter will be dishing out. Tennis shoes are NOT a good idea when walking on trails in the winter. Please use common sense.  Everyone is resposible for hiking at their own risk and knows how much they can handle.

A great day for a hike. Got warm once you got moving. Learned some fun new things. Thank you all for coming out.

Here is the a copy of the e-mail I received from Jenny with all the information: Hello everyone!

I just found out that the trail will be open for us to hike tomorrow! The website says the trail is closed - it is closed for mountain bikers, but is open for us.

We will meet at 10 a.m. at Royalview Trailhead (off of Valley Parkway in Strongsville). There are no bathrooms there, but there is a port-a-potty about a 1/2 mile south on Valley Parkway at Paw Paw Picnic area. We might be able to hike 3-3.5 depending on trail conditions. There are a few hills.

    Hope to see you there!

    Jenny

Hello everyone, tomorrow is suppose to be a cold day for the hike. Dress for the weather. I have been in contact with Jenny, the naturalist who will be leading the hike, and the trail is only OPEN to hikers. If you have checked the website and saw the trail is closed it is only closed to BIKERS because of the thaw that happened earlier. See you all tomorrow.

One more thing...please check the links to see the map for lacation. The parking lot will be a small one and right next the trails. There was no direct address given, but reading the map will help with the location.
