Chapin Forest Hike

Many of us know Chapin Forest and how beautiful it is.  But if you've never seen the fall colors from the Lucky Stone overlook, you have no idea what you're missing.  A few years ago, I hiked it because I was bored and wanted to try something different.  I had never been to Chapin Forest, and had no idea of the overlook.  When I stumbled upon it, the view took my breath away - it was one of those crisp, sunny, fall days, and the colors were amazing, not to mention the unobstructive views of MILES of Cleveland.  To me, this is a hike that should not, could not, be missed.  The Lucky Stone trail is not long - maybe a little over a mile and a half, but there are several side trails for those of us who want more.  There IS a bit of elevation, so I guess I would consider it a moderate hike.  Dogs are welcome.

Kip, can you let us know how many miles? I'd like to shoot for around 4-6 miles, so I will look for a map of those side trails you talked about.

Hi Maria - we're going to start in the parking lot on Hobart and begin with the primary trail for about a half mile, then join the lucky stones loop which will take us past the Ledges (I am coordinating a private tour of the ledges with the park to take place in a few weeks). That is about a mile and a half. Then we are going to take the Beech Wood Trail back to the parking lot. That is a mile. So, it will be about a three mile hike. When we end up back at the parking lot, you can continue following the parking lot to the Arbor Lane Loop Trail that will add another mile and a quarter to your hike. That trail is easy to find and not difficult.
