not that i've managed to find your meetup yet, i would like to add my two cents.
I find the tech and non-tech good ideas. I think non tech need to see and have a reference.
I think the tech want to download code
if this meetup gets figured out and it doesn't conflict with others i already attend, i'd like to see what you folkes are doing.
i still can't decide on best cms.
ron
thanks for being committed enough to do these meetup btw.

I'm a newcomer to the group, but I sent Brian an email about this earlier. I live and work in Stow and asked my bosses about local conference rooms that could be used in the evening and they offered the conference room we have here, or the back area we call "the bullpen". The front conference room holds about 20 some people and the back could hold more. We have a TV with computer in the conference room and we also have a projector and screen if that would be preferable. The location is in Stow, the company is called AtNetPlus, Inc. We're right off Hudson Rd. You take 8 and get off at Steels Corners and it's about a 2 min drive down Hudson. The only stipulation is that until a trust is built up, that I be in attendance, but that is the plan anyway.

Just wanted to throw it out there. The address is 1000 Campus Dr. Stow, Ohio 44224

Maybe there is a way that we could get space at Akron or KSU? Does anyone have connections? I have some with KSU. That way we could have the tech with us. That still leaves the problem of driving for some.

Apologies Brian, somehow your reply made it into my Gmail spam folder, not my inbox.

I like the idea of having the slides available for both tech and non-tech (tech: code samples, etc. / non-tech: how-to walk-throughs, etc.).

If we can't find a location that has a screen, what about one that has a large external monitor available that we can hook up to? Sometimes it's a bit hard to see things on the screen.

Perhaps it would be helpful to see how many members would attend the tech meetups and how many would attend the non-tech meetups and where each groups members are traveling from to better choose a location for each. A poll or discussion post on meetup.com might help that process.

Just my thoughts.

No toes stepped on.  We will have a meeting this month.  All this conversation is a great help to figure out where.  I do like the idea of the Panera breads but I've enjoyed having the screen available to allow slide shows and looking at sites.

The plan for splitting the group between Technical and non-technical was already under consideration.  So that would give us two meetups a month.  I'm still leaning towards that and having the non-tech be a little further north.  Thoughts?

But come to think of it, who do you think needs slides more? Tech or non-tech?

My wish for a North Canton location was just that, a wish. I realize that I am just one person who lives this far south - the majority of the members live in the Cleveland/Akron area
. I wouldn't ask everyone else to drive that far just to make my trip shorter.

My concern (and reason for responding this AM) was that there would be no NEOWP meetups until a new location was found; hence my suggestion to use the Akron Office Coworking location temporarily until another more suitable, permanent location was found.

My apologies if I stepped on anyone's toes.

Joe & Kim,
I understand the desire to have the least amount of travel time to the meetup for each of you. However, as a former North Canton resident who now lives in downtown Cleveland, I would find the two hours of travel time to and from North Canton in the evening prohibitive. It is not a few more minutes for me unless you describe 30 to 40 minutes as a few. And there are others living farther east and west of Cleveland for whom that time would be greater.
Akron is a decent compromise for all. Most would have a one-way drive time of no greater than 40 minutes. There will always be people who come from much farther afield, but it does seem to me that if we are to be a "Northeast Ohio" group, we should try to meet closer to the center of the center of Northeast Ohio. While the area from downtown Akron to Bath or Cuyahoga Falls is not a geographic center, it does provide good access via highways and is closer to the population center. Best of all, would be someplace near an I-77 or a Route 8 interchange on or north of a line created by Route 18.
An alternative approach would be to actively seek to break the group into two meetups--one Cleveland oriented and one Akron Canton oriented. I would rather not see that happen. However an hour drive home at 9:30 or 10 in the evening would rule out participation for me.

Agreed Kim… I too like the North Canton location idea. The few more minutes to come from Akron to North Canton is minimal really.

A bit late to the discussion, but have a suggestion: temporarily move the meetup to the Office Coworking location in Akron until another suitable place is found. We started at the original Akron location, and it's only 4-5 miles further south for those coming from the Cleveland area.

I personally would love for it to be at the Canton location, since I'm so far south (Newcomerstown area), but totally understand that more of the members are from the Cleveland/Akron area.

If it moves any further north than Cuyahoga Falls, I won't be able to attend any more. Cuyahoga Falls is 70 miles one-way for me. Depending on traffic, it's a 75-90 minute drive to get there.

Just wanted to add my 3 cents worth (inflation, you know).

Plus the food is good at Panera, it has plenty of parking, free wifi, and is relatively close to the interstate.  Though I am not sure if they have a projector or any setup like that...

I wanted to put my 2 cents in there ~ Panera in Montrose just renovated and have a NICE BIG area in the back that's PERFECT for a meetup.  I just met there w/ some homeschoolers for a planning for fall.  It is definitely enough space for the group ~ from what I saw at the ONE meeting we attended.  Not as cramped and crowded.I don't know their rules/regs .. I wasn't in charge of setting it up so I don't know if you have to reserve it or if we just MET there .. Just FYIJen

One thing about a new meeting place that you may want to consider: This is the only Wordpress group in Northeast Ohio, and for those of us coming from Cleveland, the drive to the Canton area can be an hour to an hour and a half depending on how far east or west of downtown Cleveland we are. I say this from experience because I used to live in North Canton. I think that the draw for interested people in the Cleveland area would be stronger if we could find a place to meet on the northern rim of Akron--from Bath to Cuyahoga Falls. That would make the trip pretty easy for everyone in the Northeast Ohio area--realizing that there are some who come from even farther afield.
