Let's just make this an annual event. It's a great winter hike! It's easy to get to, and not a hard hike. Bruce Lake Natural Area covers 2,845 acres including two lakes, Bruce Lake and Egypt Meadow Lake. We will be meeting at the parking area on Rt. [masked] miles from the exit off Rt. 84. The parking area is on the left. It is NOT the first one you'll see for Bruce Lake. It will be about an 8 mile hike with a 220 ft gain in elevation. If the weather is cooperative we’ll do the loop around Egypt Meadow Lake though we haven't done that yet. It is fairly flat but there are some very rocky areas so regardless of the weather, good hiking boots with ankle support are recommended. We’ll stop for a late lunch at a rock area on the lake so bring food, water, snacks and enough layers to stay warm and dry. If you have micro spikes and hiking poles, bring them. An extra pair of dry socks and a change of shoes for the ride home will be a good idea. The trail may be VERY soggy and/or icy and snowy so be prepared for wet feet. If you have any questions about what to wear or bring, please ask. This hike is appropriate for a beginner hiker or for a first winter hike but you should be physically able to walk comfortably for at least 8 miles. Walking through the snow will make for a more challenging hike.
We will stay together as a group allowing for some variation in speed. We will go at about a 2 mile/hr pace. Please be prepared to do so. We should be out of the woods by 5:00 PM.
