Where in the Watershed Walk - Brodhead Creek's Forgotten Canyon

Saturday, February 8 from 1:00 to 4:00 - Where in the Watershed - Brodhead Creek's Forgotten Canyon
Join BWA/PHLT members/friends and PHLT naturalists Don Miller and Bill Sweeney for an exploration of the beautiful, wild Brodhead Canyon. This little known canyon area of the Brodhead Creek is a great flyfishing stretch of the Brodhead with "wild scenery rivaling the large boulder rivers of the West". This easy hike is on a level forested terrain trail (maybe snow covered) on Monroe County Open Space property above this "canyon like" area of the Brodhead Creek.
Appropriate outdoor winter attire and hiking boots are recommended. Participants should meet in the parking area of Glen Park located at the end of Collins Street, just off Broad Street/Park Street in south Stroudsburg (see www.srosrc.org for a Glen Park map and more directions details).
* Hike donation is $5.00 per person ($3.00 per BWA/PHLT member) to be collected at the start of the hike. Hike registration recommended. To register for this hike, please call the Pocono Heritage Land Trust (PHLT) office Monday to Friday at[masked]-1514.

This could be an excellent snowshoe hike! I think I'll pack mine along.

Another 4 to 6 inches of snow on the way will just make this hike along the lower Brodhead even more beautiful. Just hoping that the icy stuff stays south. We're looking forward to sharing this little know hidden treasure with all who join us for Saturday's Where in the Watershed walk.

I've been on some of Don's hikes before. He's a walking encyclopedia of nature knowledge and local history. Looking forward to this one in particular. I've driven by "the canyon" on Interstate 80 many times and have always wondered what the Brodhead Creek was like down in that isolated area. I'll find out next weekend.

How many miles are you planning on covering?

About 2 miles on level easy terrain. This is an informational interpretive walk with two experienced naturalists to explore the natural and cultural history of this wild stream and old rail corridor.

Flyfished this lower Brodhead Creek "canyon" several times in late Nov. and early Dec. with numerous wild brown and rainbow trout landed, photo documented and released. Great to see this wild fishery prospering again. Located on Godfrey's Ridge between South Stroudsburg and Delaware Water Gap, this walk through the rhododendron overlooking the canyon on the old NY & Susquehanna railbed to the remains of an early 1900 powerplant is especially beautiful with a layer of snow on the ground.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
