Annual Fly-In To Historic Meigs Field (KCGX)

One of our most ambitious fly-in events! With such an indescribable reaction from NEPG members, the FAA, and the City Of Chicago last year, we AGAIN invite you to join us as we visit this historic field on the lake in Chicago! The plan is to meet at noon at the inculpable Mayor Richard J. Daley Memorial FBO, which means a somewhat early departure for many of us, but well worth it!  The latest NOTAM suggests that arriving pilots plan to use the grass strip as RWY18-36 is reported to be in poor condition.

Later in the afternoon, join us for our fly-in rampside barbecue at O'Hare (KORD). This is a great opportunity to practice touch-and-goes as you can probably get in 3 or 4 in a row without leaving ground effect thanks to the 13,000 foot RWY14R/32L! This will truly be an experience never to forget! Hope to see you there!

Did a touch and go.........runway was very short plus I didn't want to get hit with the $10,000 violation but I saw some of you wave as I passed over! Sure looked like a great turn out!

Second best of the year (right behind the New Hampshire Boat Trip). Certainly one of the most entertaining!

Has anyone said APRIL FOOL!! yet?
2 years ago one member took the day off and wanted to reserve a seat on the DC-3. Luckily we got to her in time and she didn't lose her vacation day.
How many did we catch this year??

Runway was in poor condition - had to ditch in the lake. Otherwise, the crowd was great and no one got any $10,000 violations!

Well, the re-entry went ok, but not the landing. I set up a descending spiral over Lake Michigan, and lost speed and altitude quickly.
Unfortunately, it quickly became apparent that the runway was about 1/3 the length needed for a full stop.
So I made a high-speed low pass (yeah, that was me!) and ditched north of the field in the lake.
I ejected just before impact and was picked up Chicago's Bravest.
The bright side: I was able to catch a can over to the field, got "surrounded by media and authorities" but not in a bad way, and didnt need to worry about the $10,000 per violation. (But Chicago's Finest said something about getting a bill for the recovery...)
PS: I just got a text from my buddy at Virgin - he said next time go Virgin Galactic. I just have to pay full fare and take care of the fine(s).

Great to are you all, look forward to doing it again next year!!

Sure glad I had my anti-gravity levitation gear coupled to my WAAS. Enjoyed the event from 2' above the surface without incident

Lets see, 10 on board, $10,000 landing fee. That's only $1000 each. This will work. Is there a tie down fee?

Flight attendants are serving cocktails. We are over Lake Michigan getting ready for our bombing run of the Daley estate.
Tal I have your F-18 in sight. Can you give me an escort to our target?

Special dispensation - Please mark your planes with tail number - N714RV. This will grant you immunity from prosecution and heap a load of derision (as well as landing fees) on a certain member of the Cessna 150 / 152 club in Texas. Don't worry - he is used to it........

    March 31, 2013

  • Tal

Count me in. I'll be flying an F-18.

    March 26, 2013

    • Tal

No doubt. Will you trade your DC-3 for my F-18 for a year, until next year's Meigs fly-in? You'll go back to Vegas in my F-18, I'll go back to Boston in your DC-3.

      March 31, 2013

Works for me, we can give each other check rides before we head home. Do you have hangar space for it?

I've repaired my wing walking suit and have been practicing out on the right wing of Joel's Cherokee. I think we have our act all set!

The DC-3 is fueled and waiting. We have 2 talented and beautiful flight attendants with impressive resumes....from VEGAS. Meals will be served on board and there are 14 seats left. My Co-Pilot, Capt. Glickman and I welcome you aboard the DALY run.

I'll be flying the DC-3 again this year. After the event we are planning a "bomb drop" contest, so bring whatever material you wish to use in your drop, ie. garbage, horse poop, etc. The target will be Mayor Daley's house, where earth moving equipment will be cleaning up the mess at midnight.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
