Do you own a Raspberry Pi?

Yes, a model B - unfortunately I have had minimal use with it, all the more reason I'd like to attend the NERP meeting.

Have you used an Arduino or other small microcontroller?

Yes, various Arduinos(atmel), Microchip, TI, Parallax, Motorola, etc...

Do you program? What languge(s)?

Yes I have programmed, mostly with C, C++, Visual Basic, JavaScript and very limited Perl/Python. -Not claiming to be great, but I have programmed.

Do you build circuits?

Yes, I have, I would like to become more proficient designing embedded circuits - PCB fabrication and surface mounting.

Do you see the Rasberry Pi as (a) a sort of small tablet/mobile computer (b) a headless hardware controller (c) some other wacky thing (d) that's the Big Question, isn't it?

(d)? -I see the Raspberry Pi as the first widely adopted 'open' single board computer that facilitates both programming and physical computing. -The portable computing combined with GPIO is what makes it appealing to me.

I'm a EE. Background includes IT, programming, Systems Engineering, embedded electronics, and automotive engineering. Military background includes RF engineering with spec. ops equipment. I've taught a few (short) courses at the university level.

What Peter V. is saying about this Meetup Group

Good. Acquired ideas + motivation. Only wish there was more time. Definitely recommend bringing a functional Raspberry Pi setup and projects for future visits. Would like to see if there is a forum for 'hacker' online collaboration during the interim.
