Little Harbor & Beyond - Paddling & Skill Building Level 2+

We'll paddle from the Odiorne State Park boat launch into Little Harbor then either out to the ocean or under the bridge to Pest Island and play & learn in the tidal currents there. This is a Level 2 and above paddle for tide/current and winds. See our "About Us" page for Skill Levels http://www.meetup.com/NESeacoastPaddlers/about/ Kayaks of at least 12 feet plus of length with bulk heads required as well as knowledge of safety skills. PFD's "life vests"must be worn at all times. We will check your profile for answers to your questions so please update if you haven't set your skill level if you don't meet the requirement you may be removed from participating. Plan on getting wet as this is a Skill Session event and we'll practice safety skills capsize & recovery as well as steering strokes and bracing in currents and towing. Bring all of your necessary gear. Paddle Floats, Tow Lines, Short Tows, Helmet etc. Don't worry if you don't have all of these items as we'll share.

NOTE: This is not a formal training session but rather a skill building session for the skills you already have. This is also an "at your own risk" event.

Put in is at the Odiorne Boat Launch boat launch. Low tide at 9:35 A.M and High tide is approximately 4:00 P.M and so we'll be paddling mid tide with it flooding into the harbor, bays and coastal area. We may stop on at BG's Boat House Restaurant for an early dinner so if this interests you bring cash or plastic. BG's Boat House restaurant is on Sagamore River and you can paddle right up to it and land.

Note: There is a $5 launch/parking fee at Odiorne State Park. Boat Launch is at the little Bridge on Rt 1A. before or after the Main Park Entrance depending if you are coming from Portsmouth or Rye. Check the map link below for details of launch site.

I overheard someone talking about the pump and that some are more effective than others. Can someone tell me what to buy? Also, I was the only one without a spare paddle; recommendations please.

Both pumps mentioned are great pumps. I have 3 of the Harmony pumps one for each kayak and mount them using velcro under the front deck for easy access when needed.

As far as a spare paddle I think most folks who progress in sea kayaking end up purchasing a carbon fiber paddle eventually and use their old fiberglass or plastic paddle as a spare. I sometimes use my greenland paddle as the spare or use the greenland when paddling and use the euro as my spare. A spare is good to have when paddling alone but if someone in your group has a spare your probably ok without one. Any kayak paddle can work as a spare though.

40% chance of thunderstorms??? Is this correct? Also, do you think we will be encountering those biting flies like the ones off Plum Island.
