Abstract
The normal view of working with phone apps is open, use, close, and forget. The Windows Phone team took that view and turned it around by providing a dozen ways to bring our apps to life outside of the context of the traditional app sandbox. In this talk, we’ll cover the ways that our app can integrate into the phone and become less of an app and more of an extension to the device that provides information and functionality even when it is not being actively used.

I am thinking that I missed understood what knowledge level this talk was going to be at and that gave me the wrong expectation for this talk. I was expecting more concepts and ideas of how to make a windows phone 8 app more device aware and a bit of tribal knowledge on the pitfalls and gotchas of development. Where I feel that all that I got out of it was a quick run down of three rudimentary areas of wp8 app. With resect to the demos that where shown, they did not hint or show anything that made me excited about using the features that where talked about. As an example showing a tile doing something that is not usually done, like playing a video clip (if possible), or animated icon, or something more then the default windows tile that every app use. Also I felt that, as an evangelist for the WP8 platform, the talker would be able to articulate what the differences and benefits of the concepts that he went over differ from the competition (android and IOs) when asked.

Looking forward to this, I regularly use ShopSavvy. I haven't done any phone dev at this point, but building outside of the "traditional app sandbox" sounds like a key to making an app that will stand out from the rest.
