Greetings! My name is Jill and I have had a fascination with rock formations, crystals, for decades....but have only had the opportunity to get down to visiting sites outside of the North East in the last decade..I'm hooked and always learning now.
I took a couple of geology classes when I was in college in upstate New York and focused on all the marvels of glaciers cutting gorges and making Finger Lakes. The last 10 years gave me the opportunity to travel West and discover low and high desert mineral collecting. First I sawed, sanded and polished the gorgeous finds into lovely cabochons or tumbled stone for the neighborhood kids, but then....I started to really look at the crystalline forms and realized this was something I would do for the next several decades....I am so curious about the small flashes of adulescence, Shiller effect or pleocroism, that I won't saw anything until I have satisfied myself that I know what I am sawing. I still haven't turned my saw back on yet.
Finding people of like mind who love getting out into Nature and searching in granite crevices for crystals...oohing over someone's gold nugget placer in a Maine riverbed, sharing the wonder of realizing we uncovered a beautiful crystal that took millennia and then some to form...For me it's about sharing the awe and discovery.
I am happy to share what I know (I consider myself a very enthusiastic novice).
Best group ever ! Where else can you enjoy getting filthy with really pleasant (and also dirty) others?
Hi Jill - just wanted to point out that our country band, blue heartache, will be playing this coming Friday night in Plaistow, which isn't too far from you. I'm hoping to see some country dancers there - perhaps you could join us!
Hello, Jill and welcome to our network. Your endeavor sounds very interesting. A lot of micros struggle to find the resources to maintain and grow their businesses. I'd love to talk to you more about this issue and hope you'll make it to our April networking event. I'd really like to meet you.
Hi Jill! See you tomorrow night at the JP Maker's meetup!
Looking forward to meeting you and Anya. Sounds like she'll be a good match for the dogs signed up so far…Romeo, Juliette, George and Ruby are pretty fast!!!
I now run a full time business called Haverhill Mine & Gem and I am very excited that I can bring my years of research to the college level. I am developing an additional course about the New England Pegamatites & Treasure Hunting for Fall 2013. Hope you all have a great Spring 2013 w/ awesome treasure finds,
Haverhill Mine & Gem
Man, you guys get an A+ for Geology knowledge, passion and efforts! I am proud to be part of your organization.
I wanted to give you and your meet up team some information about an upcoming (evening) Glacial Geology Course (Non Credit) I am teaching at NECCO/Haverhill Campus May 2013.
You can view the course information on line at:

TY Jill! Appreciate your welcome to the group - I have learned quite a bit of information from the NERH site already and excited to share and gain more. Would be great to do a lecture for the group, perhaps we can do an outdoor Glacial Geology hike and field lab in Haverhill - I am planning a couple of ice age hikes in Haverhill possibly February and March 2013 - will keep you and the team posted.
