Avid outdoor recreating type person. Introduced to rockhounding/ gem collecting back in the early 90's w/a trip to Deer Hill in Maine. Backpack, hunt, fish, camp, anything outdoors. So rockhounding is second nature. Always watching the ground.
Currently have panned some garnet out of a not-to-be-expected stream. Some gold too. Still searching for the origin of the garnet.
Experience, more knowledge of gem hunting, comaraderie of others who enjoy the same. Support to keep at it even when it looks hopeless in finding anything.
I don't have much knowledge to add, appetite for curiosity and stanima to keep at it. Share what I can if it'll be usefull.
A great group to exchange hints and idea's with. They all made me laugh and have fun!!
I just booked airline out to Las Vegas as starting point for Feb 5 through Feb12, since the flights were cheap. Hope you can come out to AZ for some or all of the time. I will move along to start at Quartzsite on Feb 6 and circle the state collecting. If there are meetups down in MA that you ever want to go to, but distance is prohibitive, feel free to stay at my place. WE 've got extra bedrooms.
Thank you for the welcome. Hope to meet you on some of the field trips.
Hi Kathy. Welcome to our rocking group. Everyone says that they have minimal knowledge...because there's so much to learn from all different aspects of the rock world....But I'm always surprised at how quickly differnt peoples' contributions come to light....often those who have never held a rock hammer have the keenest sense of observation because it's all seen with fresh eyes of wonder. Hope to meet you very soon. Come join us for the cabbing workshop...no experence necessary. Rocks on me!
