August 2013 Exhibit Your Photography Images at Cedar Hill Recreation Center

Hello Ladies: We have the opportunity for 6 members to exhibit their photography during the month of August 2013. It will be on a first come first serve basis. Whoever signs up must meet together to determine how you will organize the Exhibit for that month. I would suggest you designate one person to be the contact person for communication purposes. Please understand Gigi and I have made the initial contact but will not be responsible for further communication within the group or with the City Hall and the Recreation Center. That will be up to the people who sign up. The information is below. The members who sign up for this meetup will be responsible for the details of this exhibit. Please visit the site and read the details below to decide if you really do want to be involved. Thanks for understanding. We have a great reputation with the City Hall Group Exhibit! They saw that our exhibit was of professional quality. Hopefully we will continue to impress them with our quality art and actions.

Re: Cedar Hills Recreation Center

We are excited to show your artwork in the main corridor of the Cedar Hills Recreation Center, 11640 SW Parkway Portland, OR 97225 during the months of  August . The Cedar Hills Recreation Center is located on the corner of Cedar Hills Blvd and Parkway.

The Recreation Center can accommodate approximately 25 works. The works must be framed with wire across the back. It is helpful if you have your wire attached to eye hooks that are a minimum of ½” wide. Hanging wires can then be “hooked” to your two eye hooks. However, if you do not have eye hooks that will accommodate the hooks in our system, you may hang your work with one hanging wire “hooked” to the center of the wire across the back of your work.

If you would like to look at the Arakawa Art Hanging System, visit www.arakawagrip.com/. It might give you a better idea of what you will be working with.

Artists are responsible for hanging their own work. We recommend that you bring a friend with you to help you hang your work. There are no staff people available from the Recreation Center or Arts Commission to assist. You may ask for a step stool or ladder from the Recreation office when you arrive.

Please bring with you:

Your 15-25 artworks (must have wire across the back for hanging, no saw-tooth hangers). The total number per each memer who joins this exhibit will be determined by the group who sign up.

A framed one-page biography/artist statement/mission statement (optional, may be hung next to your artwork.)

A list of your works with your titles and prices. The list goes to the receptionist at the CHRC information counter. Please also email or mail me a copy of your list, as well.

Your completed BAC title cards (with your name, title of work and price or “NFS” if not for sale). .

Please call the Center directly to schedule your hanging time. [masked]-6340.

CedarHills Recreation CenterHours: Monday - Friday, 5:30 a.m. - 9:30 p.m.; Saturday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.; Sunday, 10 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.

Any sales during your show at the Cedar Hills Recreation Center Gallery are between you and the buyer. I will refer potential purchasers to you when they call the office. The Commission does not consign these works so we do not have a contract, we do not take a commission and we do not take liability for the works. The Cedar Hills Recreation Center does not take a commission or liability for the work either, but will make every effort to ensure the safety and security of your work while on exhibition. The program has been operating for over two years now and we have not had any issues with vandalism or theft.

Thank you for your participation in our “Cedar Hills Recreation Center Gallery” program.

The Eagle (and images:) has landed!
Six artists, 5 images each, 30 in total...Woot!
Installation night has come and gone - and what a night! :) It was met with team work, good spirits, an excellent case of the sillies at times....and such a lovely outcome! Thanks to each and every one of you for sharing your Beautiful works....and for all your Hard work!
For those of you coming to the Open House in a couple of weeks - we can't wait to share with you! For those unable to attend that night, I hope you get a chance to stop by during the month.

Oh, and September team....be aware...the hallway where you will be doing the installs gets a tad, umm....warm :) (Don't know about the others, but when I got into my car tonight I set my a/c onto 'Milkshake') hee hee! Great night :)

Hi All - For those who may be interested in viewing the images for the August Group prior to the Open House: We will be installing our images on the evening of Thursday, August 1st - so they will be available for viewing as of Friday, August 2nd. :)

Sure. I am happy to do it if everyone sends me their bio by the August 24th as well. That way, if there are any questions they can be asked and answered AND I would have time to send them all back out to everyone to be reviewed.

SO, 7:30 pm on Wednesday, July 24th at the Rec Ctr to lay out and make decisions as to where we will hang. Bio or no bios still to be decided. It would be nice if they were all alike. If everyone would want to send their bios to me (not too long) I could plan to print them all out in a similar fasion on an 8 x 10 paper in a plastic sleeve and use Dana's technique with her blue tape? I probably have enough plastic sleeves. They could have a picture or not.. I don't think that matters as much.

Hi Betty - glad you're feeling better... and thanks for the jump start again! Time is going to start flying by so I say we meet as soon as possible. I can make Saturdays and Sundays work. I'd prefer to stay away from Friday nights (date nights for me... love being single and looking ;) ... but I'll sacrifice a Friday if need be :)

    • Betty D.

Hi Cheri, I'm a bit out of practice but totally understand about Friday nights :) I think I sent you an email about the time you and Joanna were posting here. There are a few of us going to the balloon festival and we were thinking of connecting shortly after (maybe after breakfast/coffee with the group?) If we did that, we'd probably just stay and chat in the Tigard area and not do a stop by the rec center (but if anyone wanted to see it, I'd be glad to go with them).

      June 13, 2013

    • Betty D.

      Would that work for you?

      June 13, 2013

  • Joanna C.

Hello my fellow exhibit makers! I leave this Friday (14th) for Alaska and won't be back until the 21st. The 23rd would be the best time for me to run out there. Friday nights are not that apealing to me either.. If you all can't make the 23rd, perhaps those that can't do the 23rd shoudl go on one of the other days and I will go out on the 23rd. It is mainly important that we all see the spaces to hang. Maybe those who have seen it already can remind everyone of the locations you think we should check when we go. Thanks so much Betty and all.

    • Betty D.

Hi Joanna, Alaska - one of my favorite places! Hope you have a marvelous time! We may possibly wind up meeting briefly after the balloon fest the day before, but I'd be glad to connect with you on the 23rd and show you the areas that we have to hang our pictures. Just let me know what you'd like to do when you get back in town :)

**Quick meeting & pause for Coffee / Soda or early lunch on Saturday, May 11th. Hi All - We are planning a quick meeting next Saturday, May 11th to share our thoughts and do a little brainstorming on our upcoming joint venture:)

The time will be following the meetup at the Iris Gardens - and we are targeting an area near the I-5 / I-205 split (a few of us will be driving back from Salem...one, I believe is driving in from SE, and one is heading home to the Oregon City area...so just trying to split the difference:) *We will firm up the time (and location) a bit more shortly - but looking to be just before/near lunchtime.

*Please bring your small prints, and your ideas. *I've already heard some wonderful ideas from team members - and looking forward to seeing what we can put together! Hope to see everyone there! :)

This is amazing information and really gives a sense without seeing it of the space. You and CHeri will have a much better idea too so I look forward to our meeting on the 11th...

    Hi All,

**Some initial Intel on the site**

Cheri and I went to the Rec Center today and got pictures and measurements - we should have a more detailed accounting of those put together with pictures and posted sometime tomorrow - but here is some initial info:

We counted four main sections of display space along the left-hand side of the main hall. The lower portion of the wall has wainscoting - so we measured the vertical space from the wainscoting to the bar @ 59" tall.

Measurements for each of the sections were started/stopped at natural breaks (for doorways/center bulletin board, etc.)
    These came out to:
    Sections 1 & 2 @ 159" - each (around 13 ft. each)
Section 4 came to 205" (approx. 17 ft.)
Section 3 (apologies for the out of sequence:)
    This one had a few smaller breaks...so it came out with measurements of: 151" + 192" + 55" - or - a total of 398"

Cheri - again, thanks so much for your help today!! :)

  • Joanna C.

Thank you BOTH for doing this. Do you know if we are ON yet for the 11th?

    May 2, 2013

    • Betty D.

Hi Joanna, Sorry for the delay, it's been a crazy couple of days with work and the Canby meet. I just sent a message out to the group focusing on the 11th. (I'm newer at sending group messages on Meetup, so please let me know if it doesn't come through). At this time, that's what I'm aiming for - more to come :) Thanks for your support!

      May 4, 2013

  • Betty D.

    Hi All,
Cheri and I will be going to the Recreation Center this weekend to take measurements and get some pictures. We'll post the info here - and leave a note for the two other groups - so we can all share :)

Thanks again Cheri for lending a hand!

Looking forward to working with this team! Should be fun. Betty, I'm willing to help you measure... So let me know when you plan on going :-)

Should we wait to meet until after you see the location and get some information? A location I used to meet inbetween east and west was that hotel downtown (old) on Lincoln about 3rd or so? Not sure what it is called now... We should all go to the location at some ponit too. THANK YOU for offering to do this! I really appreciate it. I will meet anywhere though. Am am still not sure who "we" are yet. WHo are the '6' exhibitors?

    • Betty D.

Note # one to self....do not hit 'enter' when trying to get a new line on Meetup - there is not a separate 'post' button like Facebook - oops! :) *I was going to add...as soon as I get the measurements for us, we should try to schedule our 1st meeting... And yes, I think it would be nice for us all to get a look at the venue :)

      April 30, 2013

    • Joanna C.

Sounds great! Thanks for doing this. I knew I couldn't coordinate all of this with my work schedule here so I am very appreciative.

      May 1, 2013

  • Betty D.

Hi All, Well, if no one objects - I will contact the Recreation Center to see about gathering the measurements for our exhibition area. I live and work in the general area, so not a problem :) I'll report back here with my findings.

From there, we should probably be thinking about getting together sometime in the next few weeks to do some initial planning. Weekends are easiest for me - and I know we are all split between Eastside and Westside, etc.... Does anyone have a preference for the where and when for our first confab? :)

I am signing up for the August exhibit.

Looking forward to this! Do we have any measurements for the exhibit area?
If not, I live in Hillsboro, I'd be glad to call the center to request permission to stop by on the weekend to take measurements. I could report that back here for both groups if desired.

I am not sure which month I will participate. I will see how the things go and decide in a day or two.
