Off Camera Flash Photography: Speedlite Workshop

Hi Everyone,

Nancy M is member of our group and has taught a few workshops for us! She has been doing a lot  of model and conceptual photography in the past year and has offered to teach a Flash Photography Workshop to our group of photographers.

She has proposed a 3 hour workshop.  Thirty minutes will be lecture time and 2 hours will be devoted to a photo shoot using a paid-live model which she will arrange.  She will arrange for two models if more than 15 people sign up. (1/2 hour for set up and clean up!  :-) )

A practical workshop to get you up and shooting confidently with Speedlite Flash!

Topics Covered:

- ETTL versus Manual Flash: Picking the mode for the conditions

- Adjusting Settings on your Speedlite and Camera

- Sync Speed and Working with Motion

- Flash Exposure Compensation vs. Exposure Compensation

- Lighting for Portrait Photography

Please bring your camera and flash units.  We will have a 30 minute lecture followed by a shoot.  If you don't have a flash yet, you are welcome to experiment with mine. Class size will be limited to 20.

I will also have the following for participants to play
with:

Canon Cameras
Speedlites (580EXII and 430EXII)
Radio Triggers
Canon Hot Shoe Cable
Flash Bracket
Light Stands
Diffusers and Reflector
Back Drop and Stand
Tripod

Thank you all for working so well together. I had a great time and the models did as well. For you landscape and flower shooters, I have an overlooked setting to share for your cameras. When you shoot people, change your picture style setting from standard to "faithful" or neutral to get less saturation on skin. Consider turning down the saturation and vibrance a few clicks when you are processing as well. :)

Thanks, for the tip, reminder...I often shoot on landscape mode and it does warm up the skin too much. Shawn

I loved it. Thanks so much Nancy and others who assisted with instruction. Great models...patient.
Would love another workshop. I love "playing" with where the light and shadows make a photo work, or not. To be able to set the lighting is wonderful.

I have paid for this workshop and have the receipt, replied that I would like to go for a meal afterwards, but it does not show up on the site that I am an attendee. So, this is just a head's up that I also will be there on Saturday.

Weird! No problem! See you there! Thanks

      March 11, 2014

I wonder if this was because of the site being down for a while? I added you and will show that you paid.

I have an extra camera I could bring if you want to use it Jan.... I don't have an extra flash though. It is a Canon D7 so I'm not sure if that is what you are used to.

FYI guys, there is a GREAT flash photography site -
http://strobist.blogspot.com/. Their intro lesson is great but they also have a lot of tips on do it yourself flash accessories.

Whoops, just read your note. I have a Nikon D600 camera, a Nikon B800 and a B600 flash units. I have a remote trigger and a cable trigger. The flashes can be configured separately or together. I also have a Nikon Flash Book that I'll bring if you like (might help with Nikon user questions).

If everyone would let me know what camera / flash you are bringing, I can research the instructions for each. I have a 6D and 60D. The radio triggers will also work on Nikon cameras in flash manual mode. I have two sets of triggers so two people can shoot at the same time. Looking forward to having a fun shoot!

Generally we ask people to have already paid their annul dues before attending a limited space workshop. This is so established paying members have priority. Please pay your group annual membership dues if possible prior to attending this workshop. Thank you!
