Northeast Florida Vegetarian Society January Meetup

Being vegan may not be a laughing matter, but we're thrilled that vegan comedian bRIAN j. fOLEY, iNC. will take the stage at our gathering. So join us and enjoy Masala's all-vegan Indian cuisine buffet, featuring appetizers, salad, entres', rice, etc. Their dishes are prepared mild yet flavorful, and everything's always delicious! The $15 fare includes dessert and drink. For preparation and as a courtesy to our hosts, please manage your RSVPs.

Read more about bRIAN j. fOLEY, iNC. below. See you all there!!

bRIAN j. fOLEY, iNC. is a comedian and vegan. He started performing comedy in Boston in 2009 and quickly moved up to weekends at The Comedy Studio in Harvard Square, where he still performs occasionally. He hosts Comedy Sundays at Three Layers Coffee House in Jacksonville, which the Folio Weekly called “Side-Splitting Sundays.”  He’s a “feature” comedian at Jackie Knight’s Comedy Club in St. Augustine.  fOLEY has been selected to compete in Florida’s Funniest Comedian competition three years in a row [masked]).   He’s the author of the satirical self-help book, A New Financial You in 28 Days! A 37-Day Plan (Gegensatz Press 2011).  http://www.gegensatzpress.com/foley-28-days.html   fOLEY is fairly sure that “Gegensatz” is German for a small, eclectic publisher that does zero marketing and zero promotion.

bRIAN j. fOLEY, iNC. is a separate entity from Brian J. Foley, a law professor, who incorporated himself after the United Supreme Court’s decision in Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission (2010), so that he’d have more human rights than mere human beings.   He became a part-time vegan in March, 2012, but he moved to full time in July, 2012, to get all the benefits.

This is a location for a report on the health department closings of this restaurant:
    http://www.actionnewsjax.com/content/restaurantreport/story/Restaurant-Report-visits-Masala-Indian-Cuisine-Aw/PaNHWng0P0WcE1h_On_-7w.cspx
It has, indeed, been closed twice, for large numbers of roaches, as I read the report.

A year ago, but twice and seemingly very severe; that is my concern. I could see a roach or two that the owner might not have known about. I will allow that I may be over reacting, however.

I used to work in restaurants, where there is food there are bugs. If it has been over a year no worries. The inspectors come every 4 months. Because we live near water we are subject to palmetto bugs, and no matter how much you clean and disinfect you will still get a few. My house is spotless yet I still find them every now and then. I will be there tonight with bells on :)

We won't be attending because of the restaurant where the meetup is being held. I know it is difficult to find a suitable location but Masala has been cited for a second time now for gross deficiencies in healthy food handling practices. I think we need to look for an alternative location.

Ditto and thanks to Bill. I also researched several media and reporting sources thoroughly and found no "gross violations." And this was before I spoke with the owner, who is happy to speak to anyone who has concerns. Look forward to seeing you all tomorrow and enjoying great vegan comic relief with the yummy vegan food!

The last meeting I attended was here at Marsala's...very unusual cuisine for Americans, but really delicious! I highly recommend this one!
I hope this restaurant is frequented enough to continue for a very long time...it is a treasure!
