Trash Patrol on the Merrimack River

We'll be paddling on the Merrimack River collecting trash as we go. Spend a great day out on the water and do a good deed at the same time. We’ll be sorting the trash for recycling at the end of the paddle. This is an up and back paddle.

We will be having a BBQ after the paddle as a thank you to all volunteers! Hamburgers, hotdogs or grilled portabella mushroom caps for the vegetarians in the group, chips, potato salad, and watermellon for dessert.

From Route 3, take Exit 35E (Route 113). Go over the Tyngsboro Bridge and take a left onto Frost Road (Route 3A). Entrance to the park (site of an old campground) is on the left in about 1000 yards across from Patricia Drive. (See yellow flag below) It’s a rather steep down hill drive very close to a private residence so please be respectful.

What to Bring:

Boat, paddle, and life jacket (which you must wear)

Water – plenty of it

Sunscreen and hat, Bug repellent

Chair for the BBQ and beverages if you want more than water. (No alcoholic beverages are allowed in the park)

I will provide milk crates, dry bags, gloves, tie downs, grabbers, hand sanitizer, etc. for the actual collecting of the trash. Feel free to bring your favorite tools.

You MUST register for this trip by either calling or emailing or RSVPing to this notice

The NHAMC Paddlers have partnered with the Merrimack River Watershed for this conservation effort.

Will make a final decision on doing this Trash Patrol by 4:00 on Friday. That should be enough time for another New England weather flip! Everyone cross your fingers and pray for sun! Or at least no rain.

Thanks for asking Gwen, but I should be fine. Of course the weather forecast has changed once again since I checked it early this morning! If we were just paddling, it would probably be ok, but collecting trash is another story.

Denis, do you need food for the BBQ ?

    July 31, 2014

  • Denise H.

Sorry to hear that Liz. However...... if you would still like to help, we need someone to man the BBQ grill and set up the food for the cookout. I will be supplying all the food and paper goods, but we do need someone who is not paddling to handle this other part if possible. What do you think?

Sorry I can't join you, but I don't have my own kayak yet! When I finally land a job, perhaps I can afford one!
