Intro to Git + Github

This hands on workshop, led by Cheri Allen, will walk you through getting started with Git and Github. You'll learn how they work and how you can best utilize them. The group will be coached from installation through contributing to an open source project. Bring your laptop and be ready to learn!

After the workshop, we'll probably go get lunch together and have a little socializing time.

This note is for Robert if he can see this-you blocked your meetup account to get emails. The Ruby workshop I was talking about on the bus trip was through Code Fellows. They recently had a Ruby bootcamp that has the guarantee of getting a job in 9 months (or they refund your tuition). Many of the TAs who helped with recent Railsbridge session at NIRD attended so they might be better to give you feedback.

Great workshop! I had tried several online Git tutorials that left me still confused - after Cheri's workshop, I feel I have a good grasp of the basics

Great intro. Wish I could have stayed to socialize, but needed to attend to the pup. Looking forward to other NIRD meetups :)

Fun and informative! Well-paced and supportive for beginners and good recommendations for intermediate Git users.

I've been using Git and Github and can do most of what I want done. But, I don't feel I understand the key concepts (what's under the hood) of Git.

Will this class explain things like the Git data model and concepts like commit objects, HEAD, index, etc.? Or, is it more about how to "use" Git?

    Thanks.

It'll be more about how to use Git, and at a pretty beginner level. It probably wouldn't be very useful to you. Github offers some free training courses online, they might be more what you're looking for: http://training.githu...
