Acoustic Music Meetup @Mannion's

Join us for another acoustic jam at Mannion's! This is an inclusive jam, not an open mic. Members are encouraged to sing and play along the entire night.

We will be meeting on the ground floor in the side room. Look for the folks with the musical instruments.

Mannion's serves delicious food and has a nice selection of beers. Most of us take a dinner break around 7:30. After dinner, we play until they kick us out--usually around 11. Please bring cash to pay for your dinner and drinks.

There is an evolving setlist for this meetup. We usually get through all of the requests, most of our "semi-permanent" songs, plus about 20 more songs out of the over fourteen hundred or so songs in our files.

If you would like to add a song to the setlist, make sure it is posted to our site in the "Files" section or added to our shared Dropbox folder, then post your request in the "get the conversation started" section below.

Hi, my wife and I would like to join you this Thursday. This sounds like a great meetup! Could you add me to your Dropbox before Thursday?

Hmm...and now I have" Mississipi Half-Step Uptown Toodleoo" firmly stuck in my head as a "whistle song"!! Thanks Fil! ("Hello, baby, I'm gone, goodbye..." AAAgh!)

"Toodleoo" has multiple meanings, apparently. :-)

Last night was literally good to the last note ! It's always a treat to get a Thursday night off to join in NJAMP jamming at Mannion's. Was very pleasantly surprised to find out why "Join Together" made the semi-permanent list. That rocked ! As did a bunch of other tunes. Yup, the Alan recorder solos on "Nights" and "Duncan"were great. Mark, that "new" guy on fiddle was pretty damn good too.

And finally, as an organizer of community-made music and concerts with the Folk Project, I am impressed, appreciate and love the way Fil and everyone else operates an outstanding program that fosters warm friendship, wonderful music, nourishes talent, musical growth, a really good time... I can go on.

Good times again! Only thing, next time I need to practice my own song choices, maybe! Great doin' "Hello In There" with Mitch!

Made a big difference to my evening, especially now that we seem to be doing some more complex songs lately. I always feel so much more satisfied when I feel like I mostly "got it" ... and they go by so fast that I'm unlikely to have that experience sight-reading a tricky song. (I like that we're doing those ... they're fun! Nice balance lately of challenge and new vs familiar and easy. Good to have both.)

PS, I'm not suggesting anyone else do anything in particular, just sharing my own experience of having tried it both ways. Some weeks showing up is all I have time for. It's fun either way.

Yeah, man! "White Room" and "Stairway to Heaven" ... it just doesn't get much better than that, does it? Another fun evening at Mannion's. *****

Good to have da Nickster join us for an evening! Mitch's solos during "Mississippi Half-Step Uptown Toodle-oo" where a real highlight, as was Alan's solo on the evening-ending "Stairway to Heaven", and Alan's recorder solo on "Nights in White Satin". "Sweet Baby James", "Surfer Girl" and the Everly Brothers songs sounded particularly nice with all the voices and harmonies.

Since I don't think we have "Sometimes Good Guys Don't Wear White" in da Dropbox, a few more conventional suggestions: All I Have to Do is Dream, Deal and Daydream Believer. BTW, lookin' forward to playin White Room !

Can't make it this week. It's the nite of our son's Spring Concert. The last one - the end of an era!

They must really be good if they play better than you.

That's very nice of you to say, Mark. Thank you.

Requests "Only Love Can Break Your Heart" and "Comes a Time". Would be nice if there was a fiddler that knew "Comes a Time"

    • FiL

Mary, which version of "Only Love Can Break your Heart" do you want to use?

In A. Posted a year ago.

"Mississippi Half-Step Uptown Toodle-oo", "Pink Cadillac", and "Sweet Baby James".

Well, alrighty then ... since our leader appears to have interpreted my offhand nod to "Whiter Shade of Pale" as a request, let's round out the red, white, and black and blue set with "Red Rubber Ball" and "Little Red Riding Hood".

    April 29

    • Wendy

Someone else can request "One Toke" and all that other stuff this week ... if they feel like it.

      April 29

  • Mark S.

I am putting these in early to force myself to practice:
"White Room", "White Freightliner", and "Nights in White Satin". Do you see a pattern here?

    1 · April 25, 2014

    • Mark S.

I actually would have liked to have done "White Rabbit" by the Jefferson Airplane but it is not in Dropbox and I don't have time to write it up.

      1 · April 28

    • Wendy

"Whiter Shade of Pale" would be a great match for "White Room" and "White Satin" though, hey? And that we do have.

      1 · April 28

  • bob c.

Well then! How about "Long Black Veil","Black Magic Woman", and "Blue Wing"?

    1 · April 28

    • Wendy

Wait - one of these things is not like the others.... Though we do already have another Blue song on the table. Maybe now we need a Red set?

      April 28

  • Dan S.

I'm running early this week. I must be motivated or something. (Nah). Whatever the reason, I would like to play..."She'd Rather Be with Me" (Sorry about all the barre chords, folks), "Nobody Knows You When You're Down and Out" (I think I have the ending figured out), and give "Behind Blue Eyes" another crack Thanks, Dan

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
