Acoustic Music Meetup @Mannion's

Join us for another acoustic jam at Mannion's! This is an inclusive jam, not an open mic. Members are encouraged to sing and play along the entire night.

We will be meeting on the ground floor in the side room. Look for the folks with the musical instruments.

Mannion's serves delicious food and has a nice selection of beers. Most of us take a dinner break around 7:30. After dinner, we play until they kick us out--usually around 11. Please bring cash to pay for your dinner and drinks.

There is an evolving setlist for this meetup. We usually get through all of the requests, most of our "semi-permanent" songs, plus about 20 more songs out of the over fourteen hundred or so songs in our files.

If you would like to add a song to the setlist, make sure it is posted to our site in the "Files" section or added to our shared Dropbox folder, then post your request in the "get the conversation started" section below.

I'm so glad to be back in town and that I was able to make it for the later half of the meetup. We had an Incredible String Band going on a little over there.

Another GREAT meeting of NJ AMP!! Despite not having a bass player early in the evening, we did a credible job of the various songs. You are all talented people, and I am so happy to know you all.

Also a huge thank you to everyone for the well wishes and congrats on Carol's and my marriage on May 2. I wish I could have invited everyone to join us.

Now, let's continue to rock and enjoy the music, dear hearts!

I'd like to request "Train to Birmingham" and "Crazy Love" (Morrison's)

Sorry I missed this, Ed. Next time, post your requests a little earlier, so I have a chance to see it.

After missing a week, it was terrific to be back making noise on a Thursday evening. As usual, tons of fun. I think we even nailed a couple of the tougher songs. And of course, seeing Alan stroll through the door with a seven foot bass gave me my yuks for the night. Good times.

We'll try again this week to play..."She'd Rather Be with Me" (Sorry about all the barre chords, folks), "Nobody Knows You When You're Down and Out" (I think I have the ending figured out), and give "Behind Blue Eyes" another crack Thanks, Dan

    1 · May 4

    • Dan S.

Well, if that's the case, instead of "Behind Blue Eyes", I will request "San Francisco Blues".

      May 6

    • Wendy

Oh, let's keep "Behind Blue Eyes" on the list too. I didn't mean you should drop it! And "One Toke Over the Line".

Requesting "Pack Up Your Sorrows", "Bye Bye Love" in C and "Reason To Believe" capo 5

Nice close harmonies on Bye Bye Love. Nice opportunity for soulful violin on Reason To Believe. Looking forward to this! (If they're while I'm there of course)

Request - hold off on Wagon Wheel until I'm there? I'll try to work more on the fiddle part.

    1 · May 7

    • Mark S.

I look forward to hearing that. Let's make Wagon Wheel even more exciting.

Except that I played it last night and didn't like how I sounded. It's always better with the spirit in the room!

  • FiL

Hey folks, Alan will only be joining us for a short while this week, so we could use another bass player.

FiL, I'm pretty sure Susan is going on Thursday. If there's no other bass players and you bring yours, then I can do basic bass--I'm still in first position folks.

      May 7

    • ice

Susan is coming. So you don't have to settle with my first position playing. FYI, besides Susan and Susie, Viv can also play bass, and Carolyn a little too.

The reason I started playing guitar was because of The Doors. So let try "People Are Strange" and "Light My Fire".

    1 · May 5

    • FiL

I just added an updated version of "People Are Strange" to Dropbox. It is a little more accurate than the old one (which I've renamed "NJAMP South version").

      May 7

    • Mark S.

Thanks Fil. The Light My Fire arrangement looks pretty lame but we will play what we've got.

      Bob, we will miss you!

Like last time, fiddler will be arriving on the late side, closer to 7. Looking forward to this!

It would be lovely if there was a search engine for the song files. That way, if I am thinking of requesting a song, I can see if there is a version already out there, and if I play it in the same key.

Sounds like Ken has become Comfortably Numb.

    • Wendy

Is that an oblique request? :-)
