Acoustic Music Meetup @Mannion's

Join us for another acoustic jam at Mannion's! This is an inclusive jam, not an open mic. Members are encouraged to sing and play along the entire night.

We will be meeting on the ground floor in the side room. Look for the folks with the musical instruments.

Mannion's serves delicious food and has a nice selection of beers. Most of us take a dinner break around 7:30. After dinner, we play until they kick us out--usually around 11. Please bring cash to pay for your dinner and drinks.

There is an evolving setlist for this meetup. We usually get through all of the requests, most of our "semi-permanent" songs, plus about 20 more songs out of the over fourteen hundred or so songs in our files.

If you would like to add a song to the setlist, make sure it is posted to our site in the "Files" section or added to our shared Dropbox folder, then post your request in the "get the conversation started" section below.

Maybe it's me; I just love these things! Yes, our intrepid Carolyn did a great job herding the kitties last night, and, as Ice said, we didn't exactly make it easy for her! And the whole setlist thing; we (myself included) were a bunch of schleps about that! It really does make the evening run better when we can get it together to post song choices; by not doing so we make our Tour Guide's job doubly difficult! One little thing; what can we do about that syndrome when we start a song on a fine bright tempo and finish it like a funeral dirge (Exception; Hallelujah, which is s'posed to be slow and somehow develops a Sousa cadence)? Just askin' for ideas...

I think it was a good night.

Are you kidding? Outstanding. Maybe the deal with being unable to end songs was that we were having too much fun with each one?

Save Dust in the Wind till I get there! There's a fiddle solo in there. Not that I can do it, but I watched it on Youtube last night.

If anyone finds a small, flat, round black piece of plastic, it's the back of my tuner ... which will not work until reunited.

The only thing we found last night was a small black pick. Hope someone found it and brings it next week for your tuner.

Boy, you guys didn't make it easy for Carolyn--and she whipped you into shape! lol. Well done mein freund! Special thanks to Ken for the gear, very thoughtful of you. We had so many people stay till they kicked us out. Carolyn, you should take over when FiL leaves Mannion's for the after crowd.

Here's song by Kathleen Sloan whom I've met several times at filk music conventions or filk rooms at general SF conventions. In many ways filk, and this song, exemplify what respecting everyone's ability and requests are all about, which is a good description of the spirit of NJAMP. An MP3 is in the files: http://files.meetup.c...

Ken, that was lovely. Yes, those lyrics represent the spirit of NJAMP which Alan instilled by accepting others, their opinions, and their song choices. We never would have grown to our current numbers had Alan and the founding members not tolerated other people's song selections. They would have become their own little clique. Mannion's is an inclusive jam and is worded as such. See that LONG post for the origins of this. The aftercrowrd has always operated in the same accepting manner as the full crowd. Susan, I sense your pain and frustration with the way we run things. Perhaps you can start a meetup group, and make it clear that yours is an exclusive jam tolerating only those songs voted on by the majority of participants. I am sure you'd get members and everybody would be happy. There's a meetup out there for everyone! Now, there's blonde curly haired specimen to attend to . . .Have a great weekend everyone!

Well, that was fun! The small groups are always special. "One Toke Over the Line" was the best we've ever done it! Carolyn did great keeping all those cats in line.

I set up and tested the amp, instrument foot-switch and mike this evening, all working fine. I plan to leave work early enough to get to Mannion's by 5 or so to set it up.

Don't forget to list your song requests, and remember, only 3 per person for this weeks meet up. Make sure your requests are either in the Files section of the website, or in our shared dropbox folder.

Going to miss Mannion's this week. I'm pressing grapes for a couple barrels of Chilean wine.

I'm surprised by the level of growth I've seen since becoming an organizer, it's given me more confidence in my abilities.
