Acoustic Music Meetup @Mannion's

Join us for another acoustic jam at Mannion's! This is an inclusive jam, not an open mic. Members are encouraged to sing and play along the entire night.

We will be meeting on the ground floor in the side room. Look for the folks with the musical instruments.

Mannion's serves delicious food and has a nice selection of beers. Most of us take a dinner break around 7:30. After dinner, we play until they kick us out--usually around 11. Please bring cash to pay for your dinner and drinks.

There is an evolving setlist for this meetup. We usually get through all of the requests, most of our "semi-permanent" songs, plus about 20 more songs out of the over fourteen hundred or so songs in our files.

If you would like to add a song to the setlist, make sure it is posted to our site in the "Files" section or added to our shared Dropbox folder, then post your request in the "get the conversation started" section below.

Thank you all for taking the time to teach me some things. Look forward to next week. Happy birthday Brian and Wendy.

Glad you had fun Jason. As I mentioned last night - consider Mannions 'Guitar Boot camp'...you'll be rockin' in no time.

As long as you're enjoying yourself, just keep dong what you do.

Yes!! This one was for the record books. Two birthdays (Happy Birthday again to Wendy and Brian), a HUGE set list from which to select songs, wonderful harmonies, Alan's new guitar (gorgeous looking and sounding), and so many new faces amidst the familiar ones.

I really did not mind that we did not get to play one of my new songs with all those classics from which to choose. We have plenty of weeks ahead!!

Carol was not able to make it, but she sends a bucket of love to the entire group! She misses you all a great deal. Hopefully, she will feel well enough to make it soon! I know she will enjoy all the photos of this week's assembly.

Wow, wow, wow! I could not have been happier to have my birthday fall on a Thursday this year. And I could not imagine a place I'd rather spend it than making sweet music with my friends. All day people on Facebook were wishing me music and dancing on my birthday, and all day I was like, yeah, that's totally gonna happen, no worries.

And it sure did ... like it seems to week after week, the evening exceeded expectations. We totally ROCKED "White Room" ... that is really coming together! And Brian really delivered the Beatles "Birthday" song ... on his own birthday eve.

Thanks to Bob the Cakemeister for the luscious (and beautiful) cake, bits of which are still feeding my at-home family today ... my Chinese houseguests who made me an amazing dumpling lunch in our backyard yesterday got to enjoy a birthday cake breakfast this morning, which they loved (me, I had leftover dumplings).

And thanks to Mike for capturing it all in such fabulous photos, and Judy for videoing "Werewolves" - I have an overseas friend who is eager to see that. Next time we gotta get video of "White Room"! :-)

Nice to see some new familiar and familiar-ish faces there ... welcome, Loretta, and Jason - you are so in the right place - don't let us scare you off and do keep coming back. It just gets easier and more fun the more you come, and there's no faster way to learn than playing with folks. Hopefully you met enough of us who started where you are that you've seen it can be done! (Oh, you might also want to check out www.folkproject.org. They also have regular music party / jam-type things, including *two* this weekend ... let me know if you want more info.)

A big happy birthday to Brian today! What a fun shared birthday party we had!

And a big "happy unbirthday" to everyone else. Thanks for making mine special.

Oh, yeah ... and the setlist ... so nice to have such an abundant request list of such excellent songs. I think that's the fullest I've ever seen it. Sorry we ran out of time for Joe G's new song and Mary's request ... hopefully we can do those next time. When we have more requests than time, I guess that's a "happy problem"!

My goodness, that was a fun night! All that percussion did make for a loud room at times, but it made us sound like a real band. On several occasions, I thought, "Wow, that's the best we've ever played that one!" The double fiddles of Vicki and Mark on "Runaway Train" were simply gorgeous. The cake was fantastic. Happy Birthday, Wendy and Brian! Kudos to a great night everyone, and welcome to our new members!

Ok, you *know* when you start out with multiple percussionists, that it's going to be a fun night. I think we pretty much nailed everything we tried last night. Judy and I were saying afterward that we were listening to some of the different harmonies during a couple of the songs (Under the Boardwalk comes to mind ) and how really great they sounded.

    Nice. Very very nice.

    Happy birthday Wendy and Brian!

Hey, why aren't the stars gold anymore? NJAMP gets GOLD stars! So, we had another slam-bang whoop-dee-do night! And I was sayin' goodnight to Carolyn in the parking lot, and I said, "How lucky are we that we found these guys (meaning you all)? She agreed. Pretty damn lucky!

I would like for us to do "All of Me - John Legend", "Against the Wind - Bob Seger", "California Dreamin' - The Mamas and the Papas" and, if it is not too crowded, I would like to try my latest song, "Same Old Tunes - Joe Guzzo".

It's the return of Chris & Gabe (last I was told, anyway). For them..."Boulevard of Broken Dreams", "Rockin' in the Free World", and "Should I Stay or Should I Go". Thanks, Dan

I just put a new version of "Rockin' in the Free World" in Dropbox. It makes the times of the instrumental parts a bit easier to follow.

Re "White Room" - I played it a whole bunch at late-night song circles at the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival last weekend - it was a big hit! For practice, I did this before I went:

Ok. How about Sunshine, Sunny Afternoon, Under the Boardwalk (no sun in the name but it is about Summer)

I have to tend to a batch of Chilean wine I am making. So no Mannion's for me this week.

Need some songs on the setlist! Fil's back, so if we don't post stuff it'll be "Muskrat Love" again! My suggestions to help avoid such a turn of events are...(drumroll)..."Hurricane", and "It Never Rains In Southern California", and "Snowin' On Raton". Somebody else needs to come up with some sunshine songs...
