Open Mic at Rolf's

OK, here we go again. NJAMP open mic, this went so well last time, we had to schedule another ...ASAP. Same format as last time, we are learning and will fine tune as we go along. Lets tune up and show our stuff.

In preparation for the Rolf’s Open Mic  here are some additional details :

The performance schedule will generally follow the order of RSVPs.
The earlier you post your request to perform on the meetup site, the easier it will be for Autumn and I to schedule your time slot. In order to minimize downtime and keep things flowing, we're asking everyone to be performance ready. Rolf’s provides us with a back room for storing our equipment cases, tuning and limited prep.

Due to the enthusiastic response to Fridays NJAMP open mic night we may not be able to feature more than 3 songs per performer. The schedule will include 2 sets with a short break in between. Performers will be able to do 2 songs during the first half and their 3rd song during the second half. Naturally with time permitting an encore performance can be arranged. The first performance will start between 7:30 and 8 pm.

If possible, please post the following by Thursday evening
Approximate Arrival Time

songs you plan to perform, corresponding key & duration
names of anyone performing with you
whether you need vocal backup
whether you need instrumental backup
Thank you all and lets have a Rockin Good Time!!!!

Whoo-hoo! I came late so I missed the early performances, but what I made it for was great! Autumn and Tom were like professional emcees, and kept that stage organised and cracking along all night! When there are that many good acts, it's like we should invite music critics! Too many good ones to list! Rockin' good time! It seemed everyone was at the top of their game, and the organisation level (I mean everyone working together, as well as being ready to perform when they took the stage) was very good! Sure hope this works for the owners cause it's great for us, I think! Please forgive me, all of you who played and sang; I'd love to say something about everyone but it'll take an hour to do! Excellent!

This venue worked very well for the open mic format. There is ample room on stage for equipment and musicians.
A great opportunity to play in public, and meet new musicians. Lots of fun even with the pre-performance jitters.

What fun when your friends are the entertainment! I'm so glad Tommy found Rolf's for us and that they let us storm the scene. Kudos to Tommy and Autumn once again for making this work. Autumn, you rock with that roster!

Thanks again to Autumn and Tommy for really tightening up the performances and schedule (I hope that it wasn't too much work for you guys). Thanks to NJAMP, whose support for their fellow musicians instills so much confidence and enables us to take chances. The bar just keeps getting raised, I can't wait to see what happens next!!!

Running smoother every time out! Rockin' good times. Highlights included Hig's 'Howlin' sing-along (howl along) original, plus some super vocals from Autumn and Ice ! Loved the Zeldin family father/daughter numbers !Some spirited geetar and sax soloing on "Melissa" , "Rockin in the Free World". "Miss You" and "Hey Joe".

Five stars to Tommy and Autumn for putting it all together, working the kinks out of the format, and keeping things moving all night long. Well done!! Another five stars to all the performers--you really sounded great! And while I'm at it, another five stars to everyone who listened. I had a great time!

What a wonderful time. All singers and players were in top form. Special thanks to Tommy who deserves recognition for having had the ambition to make it his mission to set the conditions to have his vision come to fruition and to Autumn who put in all the hard work to make it happen so smoothly.

A suggestion: at some point in the evening, if we have time, we should do "Hole In The World" to commemorate 9/11.

  • Bryan

I'd like to play "Rockin' in the Free World" and "Mary Jane's Last Dance" with anyone who knows them and wants to join in. I'll post the chords up for Rockin' in the Free World - I believe Tommy and Nickster consisted of the rhythm section last time, you're help again would be awesome!

If there's time for a 3rd I'd like to do "Handle with Care" with anyone who wants to join in!

  • FiL

Assuming my voice is back to fighting strength by then, I'd like to do "Summer Tan", "You Gotta Sin to Get Saved" and "The Last Call" backed by Ed, Joe B., Alan, and Ange.

    September 7, 2011

  • ice

Something to Talk About, Bonnie Rait. Autumn, Joe H. joins us, but arrives arround 9. may not be a problem based on lineup so far. nick and chuck joining in as well.

  • angelo

Put me down for "Randall Collins", Delia" and "Johnyy Appleseed". I can do backup on drums as well.

    1 · September 7, 2011

  • Joe B.

I'd like to do "Wonderful Tonight" and "Melissa" with Jim. We will need a bass.

    1 · September 7, 2011

  • Joe H.

Put me down for "A Dog's Got to Howl at the Moon" and "Maybe I Want Too Much" (another of my original's). If we have a drummer, that would fit with either song. At some point I want to teach Da Nickster the bass part to "A Dog's Got to Howl", but probably not for Friday.
I expect that I'll be arriving after 9:00, but it could be earlier.
I'll also fill in wherever anybody needs me.

I can't "go on" before 8:30, because I invited some people for that time, and they will probably come later. So I'm hoping I can go around 9???

Tom I would like to do "Hello in There" by John Prine, "Where's My Money" by Billy Branch, and "Folsom Prison Blues" by Johnny Cash. Would appreciate someone singing lead on Folsom and backup vocals on the other two. Where's My Money is just a 1 4 5 blues in G. All are welcome to join in to play on any of these.
