Acoustic Music Meetup @Mannion's

The fun continues!!!

Join us for another acoustic jam at Mannion's. This is an inclusive jam, not an open mic. Members are encouraged to sing and play along the entire night.

We will be meeting on the ground floor in the side room. Look for the folks with the musical instruments.

Mannion's serves delicious food and has a nice selection of beers. Most of us take a dinner break around 7:30. After dinner, we play until they kick us out--usually around 11. Please bring cash to pay for your dinner and drinks.

There is an evolving setlist for this meetup--see the link in the left-hand column of our site. We usually get through all of the requests, most of our "semi-permantant" songs, plus about 20 more songs out of the over five hundred or so songs in our files.

If you would like to add a song to the setlist, make sure it is posted to our site in the "Files" section (see the link in the left-hand column of the site), then post your request in the "get the conversation started" section below.

really felt very good being there with everyone. No matter what, everytime I am always lifted up in spirit. Thanks.

I think the group should incorporate and get a studio and operate it as a buisness with the volenteering partners sharing expenses and profits.

Yeah, we did OK, huh? I know exactly what Fil means about that moment when the music stops ringing and we all look around and go "Gee!". I also love those rare off-moments when someone in a corner will start with some little riff, and the guy next to him picks up the thread, and the gal next to them starts a harmony, and next thing you know, the whole place is rocking! NJAMP is fueled by the spirit of music; that's pretty high-octane stuff! We just need more of it! (Self-confessed addict speaking!)

Fantastic. Great the way dinner is handled and the music just keeps flowing. Super group of people.

Another excellent time! There were moments when we'd finish a song, and everyone would just look at each other and say,"Wow, that *really* sounded good!" I love when that happens. Props to Alan for his recorder solo in "Nights in White Satin". And later in the night we had TWO fiddle players! Wish I could have stayed to hear more of that!

So we do realize this is the last one before Halloween, right? Sorry to be so late with this; lately the only day I keep track of is Thursday; the rest is just a blur...Anyhow, could we do "Friend of the Devil", "The Devil's Right Hand", and "Love Potion"? I'd love to do "Black Magic Woman" but I think the posted version needs a little fixin...Do we have "Witchy Woman"?

In the photos I see people looking at an iPad while playing. What are you looking at? Is it an app? Chords on a PDF file? I would like to use my iPad for music.

    October 21, 2012

    • FiL

Mark, we use a shared Dropbox folder to store PDFs of our song chords & lyrics. They are also all here on our website (see "Song Files" link in left column). If you have a Dropbox account, send me a message with the email address you used to sign up to Dropbox, and I'll give you access to our folder. Many of us also use an iPad app called unrealbook to view the PDFs.
