I restrung the resonator last week and the lap steel tonight. I gently stretched the strings at the 12th fret and it seemed to help. I only had to retune the reso twice the next day. On the down side, I got stabbed 4 times. I guess no pain, no gain, LOL.

Fishman recommends that you remove one string at a time if you have an under-saddle pick-up to avoid movement of the pickup and potential damage. I just worked on a nylon string guitar that had a hum when plugged in. It gave me a chance to see how fragile those pickups are. There was no visible damage, but slight pressure in the right spot would stop the humming. I am now believer that it is best to keep pressure across most of it while you replace one string at a time.
