Essex County Evening Hike

A 5.3 mile evening hike along the West Essex Trail and the Lenape Trail in Essex County.

Points of interest: The Peckman River, The Cedar Grove Reservoir and the Mills Reservation.

2-3 hours. Moderately challenging terrain in parts.

Although we should finish by sundown, flashlights and/or headlamps would be a good idea.

The damp weather put a bit of a damper on it so we did not do the hike to completion and came up a mile and change short.

Leslie and Jackie asked to see the actual route we hiked tonight and here it is:

If you want to take a stab at it on your own, go back to Foodtown, get up on the train trestle and head north past the river and keep following the yellow blazes.

Believe it or not I had a great time - well, except for the lightening. It's always good to get our of your comfort zone every once in while and test out rain gear.

Looks like there may be rain tonight.

I have no intention of cancelling. If you come out, bear this is mind and bring a raincoat, poncho or umbrella. Flashlights are a good idea as I mentioned in the description.

I responded by saying "No" but if I can make it I will drive by Food Town but will check first to see if the hike is full.

Is this an actual woods trail (hiking boots) or a paved/semi-paved (sneakers) county park trail?

    September 10, 2013

    • Daniel

Not paved. I do it in sneakers all the time; but its definitely trails.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
