Hello Everyone,

I'm still determined to go kayaking on the Delaware this summer, not only because it's so much fun but also because I enjoy this part of the river. It's peaceful and serene.  It isn't very rough but still fun and relaxing with class 1 rapids.

The trip: We will be taking the Bushkill Launch to Smithfield Beach. This is a scenic 10 mile trip with an estimated paddle time of 3.5 hrs. without stopping. I figured we can stop at a campsite for lunch which would add about an hour to the trip time!

Rental prices for single or two-person kayaks depend on the # of people going.
1 - 9 people: $46.00

10 - 19: $38.00

20 +: $34.00

*CASH ONLY*

*THE MORE PEOPLE THAT RSVP, THE BETTER THE RATE.

Price Includes: kayak, paddle, life jacket, river maps, and FREE shuttle transportation for people, luggage, and boats.

What to bring/Wear:

- Plenty of Water! At least two bottles per person.

- packed lunch in plastic zip locked bags.

- trash bag, napkins etc.

- Sunscreen/sun protection (hat, sunglasses,etc.)

- appropriate clothing for the weather

- dry change of clothing (You will get wet)!

- sneakers or river shoes (your feet will get wet)

- Bathing suit & towels

- camera/binoculars

* You want to keep anything you're bringing into the kayak in zip lock bags, plastic or rubber bags.* This also includes keys, camera & phone. Everything will get wet otherwise.

Cancellation: The event will be canceled if there is thunder & lightening. Please let us know if you are going to cancel due to weather or other circumstances at least 48hrs. before the trip. Once we are on the water, there are no refunds.

We meet at: Adventure Sports - GPS Address - Route 209 & County Bridge Road, East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania 18301

Phone:[masked] Website: www.adventuresport.com

Directions: From the East (NYC and NJ) - Take I-80 West into Pennsylvania. Get off Exit #309 (Marshalls Creek). You can only go one way (209 North). They are approximately 2 miles on the left. Please check the website for more directions & further information.

*IMPORTANT INFO.* Please try to be there at least 15 min. early to fill out paperwork (wavier form), pay, etc. **Please bring enough cash for the $46.00 Kayak Rental. We will know the actual price closer to the event.** We will be collecting the money and wavier forms since we must pay as a group. To make it easier and faster, you can download the waiver form from the website: http://www.adventuresport.com/waiver.php

*After we meet at Adventure Sports to pay we will then take a 10 min. drive to Smithfield Park Beach where we leave our cars. There is a $10.00 parking fee. We cannot leave our cars at Adventure Sports. I would recommend carpooling to make it more affordable. If you see or know anyone in your area you'd be interested in car pooling with, please don't hesitate to contact them (via-email).There will be toilet facilities at both starting & ending points.

*If everything goes smoothly we should be on the river around 11:30am and back around 4:30/5:00pm. We need to be off the water no later than 6pm.

DISCLAIMER: Your attendance on this trip is strictly voluntary and you assume full responsibility of your own safety. By RSVPing “Yes” and attending this meetup you agree not to hold me or any other member of this group liable for any accidents or injuries.

I can't wait to get on the water!! :-)

Sorry I am gonna back out. I know it's my first event but had an issue years ago with heavy rain and thunderstorm while playing golf. I will gladly go if some of the other indoor activities are opted for (bowling or movies) but with such a high chance of thunderstorms at various points of the day I am going to have to respectively opt out. Thanks again and hope everyone has a fun time!

Hello All, Sorry for the delay. I've been tracking the weather and hoping it would change for the better. So far, it's predicting a 51% chance of rain and a thunderstorm around 10am then again around 1pm and 4pm. It could hit us, and then again could miss us. I hate to cancel again. I don't have a problem with kayaking in the rain. Done it many times before. If a thunderstorm comes through, we'll just have to pull over till it passes. Here's my proposal: Anyone that still wants to go, please post a comment. If we have enough people interested, I'll keep our reservation. If not, l have some other ideas in mind:
Dinner & a movie? Please feel free to post your ideas to replace the kayaking if that's what it comes down to....Thank you, Melanie & Faith

Hi Deep, Sorry This Sunday was the next available date we could host this event. We both have other obligations.
We'll keep everyone posted on the weather as we get closer to the date. It's still way too soon to tell. These summer storms move in & out quickly and the forecast is constantly changing. Please e-mail us directly if you have any other questions, concerns, or suggestions.
    Thank you,

    Hello Everyone,

I just wanted to let you all know that due to the severe weather conditions predicted for Saturday, Melanie and I have decided to change the date of the kayaking event to Sunday July 28th. We were hoping the forecast would change but the chance of thunderstorms is now 70% with heavy rain and frequent lightening. I'm sorry for the inconvenience and I hope that you will all be able to make the new date. If you are unable to attend next Sunday, please make sure to change your RSVP. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact us.

    Hello Everyone,
If this is your first time kayaking, and your feeling a little nervous about trying it: I just want to reassure you, this event is good for beginners. I used to be Soo afraid to try kayaking even through I grew up canoeing & have canoed many times on the Delaware (through Skinner's Falls) etc., I thought kayaking was like you see on TV with people flipping over going through white water etc.. This is SOO not that, Far fom it! This part of the river is VERY calm and the way the kayaks are designed (open), you cannot flip it unless you were trying to or of course, doing something your not supposed to. Once I tried it the first time, I Loved it! I actually feel a lot safer now in a kayak then I ever did in a canoe. Hope my little story helps! :-)
