The acclaimed documentary The Whale will be shown at the Bryn Mawr Film Institute for one night only beginning at 7:00 p.m. on October 22. This G-rated film suitable for all ages is narrated by Ryan Reynolds and tells the incredible story of Luna, a Southern Resident Killer Whale who was separated from his pod as a young orca and lived for several years in Nootka Sound off Vancouver Island. His life sparked controversy between residents, tourists, the Canadian government, the First Nation tribes and activists, all of which is documented in this moving film. Door prizes and a Q&A will follow the screening with guest speaker, Lindsay Delp Gibson, a marine scientist who has worked with whales.
Tickets are $20.00 and are available at www.thewhalemovie.com. Tickets can also be purchased at the door on the day of the screening. All proceeds benefit The Center for Whale Research, a non-profit organization based in Friday Harbor, WA, which carries out non-invasive studies on the Southern Resident Killer Whales.
