Lower Landsdown Trail Hike & Holiday Pot Luck

Dec 22 (Sun): Lower Landsdown Trail Hike and Holiday Pot Luck: 2pm for the hike, and 4pm for the holiday appetizer and dessert Potluck. Come out for our merry 5-mile easy winter solstice hike! This will be a fun and easy jaunt just in time to get you in shape for the holidays: Bring the kids, binoculars and, if you are so inspired, something to share afterwards, an appetizer or dessert. Foul weather cancels. For the hike we will gather at the Fox Lumber parking lot behind Weichert Realtors. Afterward, we will meet at 27 Center Street, Clinton for our holiday Potluck. Please feel free to hike and party or just join us for the party afterwards. Please contact Jonathan to register and let him know what you are bringing at [masked].  But ideally, please sign up here on Meetup.

Laura Dillman from the Raritan Headwaters Association will be joining our group and we will stop midway along the trail - somewhere along the South Branch—perhaps the Capoolong Creek?—for a visual stream health assessment (available cover, sediment deposition, channel flow, frequency of riffles and runs, bank stability/vegetation, etc.  The visual assessment demonstrates how volunteers in the community can monitor streams in their own communities and submit such useful data to the NJDEP for further investigation.

The hike was a lot of fun. Hiking on the 22nd of Dec. in a T-shirt was a bit of a treat, considering the temps. last week. We had a real good group. The Pot Luck, three words... Da lish us!!!

Jonathon, I have someone asking if the hike is dog friendly? What say you?

If anyone is coming in from New Brunswick to the walk and potluck, let us know if you are willing to help someone carpool. Thanks, JDW
