North Jersey Group Meeting: Why Ban Fracking in Bergen County?

"Why Ban Fracking in Bergen County?” will begin with a presentation from Food & Water Watch organizer Matt Smith on the looming threat of fracking in New Jersey’s Newark Basin, a shale rock formation with significant gas reserves that underlies parts of seven NJ counties, including Bergen. The presentation will be followed by a panel discussion on the impacts fracking is already having on our NJ communities, including imports of fracking waste, new pipelines and compressor stations, the increased levels of radon brought into our homes via fracked gas, a proposed liquified natural gas terminal off the Jersey Shore, and the increased green house gas emissions created by fracking that exacerbate climate change and fuel extreme weather events. The event will close with a question and answer session and a call to action for elected officials and local residents alike to protect our communities from the impacts of fracking. Free and open to the public

The event is co-sponsored by The North Jersey Group of the Sierra Club, Food & Water Watch Bergen/Passiac Group, The Mothers Project, and ClimateMama.
