Read the FULL GROUP DESCRIPTION and "EACH EVENT" DESCRIPTION CAREFULLY- the details are there for a reason. Please adhere to all rules carefully to avoid mix-ups/unnecessary questions/admonishments. Check the event posting prior to leaving your home for any cancellations by the leader(s). Meetup will automatically withdraw your membership if dues is not pd. on time. If there is no member activity, I will. Pay thru meetup OR mail your dues to my address below, with a name/description because sometimes there are many people with the same first names. Or put in an envelope with name/give to me at one of the events.
YOU MUST BE SINGLE(NOT IN A RELATIONSHIP)-THIS IS BASED ON THE HONOR SYSTEM-ONCE YOU START DATING SOMEONE AT THE LEAST YOU SHOULD BE COMING TO DIFFERENT EVENTS (NOT COMING TOGETHER AS A COUPLE) ONCE YOU ARE DATING FOR SIX MONTHS-YOU ARE EXPECTED TO RESIGN FROM THE GROUP/YOU CAN ALWAYS REJOIN LATER IF THINGS DON'T WORK OUT.
THIS IS ALSO NOT A SITE FOR ADVERTISING/OR PROMOTING YOUR PARTICULAR POINTS OF VIEWS/RELIGIOUS/POLITICAL OR OTHERWISE-ANYONE DOING SO WILL BE BANNED WITHOUT NOTICE.
BY ATTENDING, YOU ARE ACKNOWLEDGING THAT ALL ACTIVITIES ARE AT YOUR OWN RISK.
ALWAYS CHECK EVENT POSTINGS FOR UPDATES/CANCELLATIONS/RAIN DATES/CHANGES IN DETAILS ETC. (including just prior to THE event). If you are leading an event, please post a phone #, so people can contact you by phoning/texting you just prior to event-in case they are lost/nearby etc. (But, your phone # is not mandatory). *It is extremely easy to post an event (see below) or just ask me or another member and I/we will send directions/or you can go to Meetup's frequently asked questions section.
We wait "just" a few minutes for late-comers/so give yourself plenty time to arrive on time as a group courtesy(especially if this is a new venue for you). STRICT RULE: AT LEAST 3 PEOPLE NEED TO SHOW IN ORDER FOR AN EVENT TO PROCEED/OTHERWISE MEMBERS NEED TO CANCEL.
POSTED Events must be at a Public Venue (until you know the group really well). **To post an OCCASIONAL private venue/event you must be a member for at least 3 months/must have attended at least 6 events/and met some of our members/AND, ok it with the leader.
* EVENTS/HIKES ARE NOT PROFESSIONALLY RUN AND OFTEN NOT WELL-KNOWN BY MEMBERS WHO POST THEM INCLUDING MYSELF (ORGANIZER)-THIS ADDS TO VARIETY AND ADVENTURE. If you have a need to be more informed you are free to investigate the venue yourself/BUT DON'T BUG THE POSTER. USE GOOGLE???
DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, MAKE RESERVATIONS for anyone UNTIL ALL UNREFUNDABLE MONIES ARE COLLECTED OR YOU MAY GET STUCK. (THIS HAS HAPPENED IN THE PAST). YOU WILL NOT BE RE-IMBURSED.
We do not necessarily have a sweep at hikes unless someone volunteers. If no sweep and you are falling behind, please let the group know BEFORE we lose you.
YOU MUST BE EASY-GOING/ABLE TO HANDLE UNCERTAINTY TO BE A GOOD FIT FOR THIS GROUP.
BRING/CARRY AN EMERGENCY PHONE NUMBER WITH YOU/AMPLE WATER SUPPLY/SNACKS/APPROPRIATE GEAR/SUNSCREEN/BUG SPRAY/FLASHLITES IF WE WILL BE HIKING AT NITE OR TOWARDS EVENING. WALKING STICKS/POLES ARE HELPFUL ON THE DOWNHILLS AND UPHILLS.
FEEL FREE TO ADD VARIETY/NEW EXPERIENCES BY POSTING AN EVENT/HIKE IN ANY PART OF NJ OR TRI-STATE AREA. HIKES ARE EASY(flat) 3 miles TO MODERATE, (with inclines) TO 4-8+ MILES LENGTH. Some members post hikes that are longer/more strenuous. **IF YOU don't meet all this criteria/there are other MEETUP GROUPS THAT MAY BE MORE APPROPRIATE (OR YOU COULD START YOUR OWN GROUP). SINGLE GUESTS OVER 50 ARE ALLOWED "OCCASIONALLY"/AS IS AN "OCCASIONAL" MARRIED GUEST (BUT NOT BOYFRIENDS/GIRLFRIENDS).
CHANGE YOUR RSVP IF YOU DECIDE TO NOT COME AFTERALL-THAT WAY WE CAN KEEP AN ACCURATE HEAD COUNT at the site. AND, PLEASE DO NOT RSVP TO EVENTS THAT HAVE BEEN LIMITED TO A CERTAIN NUMBER UNLESS YOU ARE FAIRLY SURE YOU WILL BE ABLE TO ATTEND. Some PEOPLE RSVP 20+ TIMES AND HARDLY EVER SHOW-THAT IS NOT OK.
Anyone who "repetitively" does not show a sincere effort to abide by rules to a significant degree will be deleted from the group by myself without further notice/ANYONE WHO CAUSES OTHER MEMBERS DISTRESS WILL BE BANNED.*
I AM ON MANY HIKES MY PHONE# IS (908) 917-7291. I WILL RECEIVE CALLS /TEXTS ONLY 15-ONE HALF HR. PRIOR TO THE EVENT IN CASE YOU ARE CLOSE BY AND WE CAN TRY AND HELP YOU WITH LAST MINUTE DIRECTIONS. *THE GROUP WAITS 10 MINS. AFTER POST- TIME, BUT USUALLY NO LONGER.

Miscellaneous Details Below
Anything worse than a light rain will cancel the official/"posted" hike, but hey "it's a free country"-so if a hike is "officially" canceled by the organizer (or the person who posted it)but some members decide to go anyway-that's fine. AGAIN, I ONLY ASK THAT THE EVENT NOT OCCUR UNLESS 3 PEOPLE SHOW-FOR SAFETY REASONS. People can do all/part/or even add some length to the original posted hike. Event posters will keep members apprised if cancelled or of other changes but sometimes just before the event, so again, always check posting/CALENDAR for any last minute changes.
Make sure you are capable of completing any activity. If hiking, start with a flat 3-miler, then we can tell you in comparison how much harder another hike is. You can also bring a friend to help you if you like-if you are not sure-someone who can read trail markers. Just try to be mindful of all safety issues. . *And, again, if you need to take a rest, just let us know-it's happened to us too!!! And some other group members will likely welcome the rest. I know I always do. :)
The group generally decides when to stop/break and for how long and thus far-this seems to have worked out well. WE HAVE HAD INJURIES SO ALWAYS BE CAREFUL. WE ARE NOT PROFESSIONAL HIKE LEADERS SO NOONE IS responsible (unless they choose to)for leading the hike, we read the maps and muddle thru together;

Occasionally, some venues have entrance fees, ie. local wineries, campgrounds-but the poster will post that info. IT IS ALWAYS BETTER TO HAVE PEOPLE MAKE THEIR OWN RESERVATIONS/PAYMENTS. If carpooling, each passenger should give the driver their share of cost gas/tolls/parking (if any) for the round trip/or take turns driving. Driver should not have to ask/but of course can.

While most of our current active members are from Central NJ, we’re really interested in exploring North and South Jersey as well and we go into NY and Pa. at times. We encourage members from North and South to join us and post hikes/activities in your area or ask someone else (inc. myself) to post a hike for you. IT'S VERY EASY TO POST. THE PERSON WHO POSTS IS IN CHARGE OF DETAILS/CONSULT WITH THEM OR GROUP ORGANIZER WITH ANY CHANGE REQUESTS. ONCE YOU POST, I WILL SEE THAT AND GIVE YOU EDITING PRIVILEGES within a day or so. You can't make a mistake because you can edit/let attendees know of changes automatically by clicking a button. Active members find this a very rewarding group experience. PLEASE RESPECT INTERPERSONAL BOUNDARIES/PRIVACY!!!!! NO TOUCHING! AND MIND YOUR REMARKS-BE SURE THEY WILL NOT BE FOUND OFFENSIVE TO ANYONE "BEFORE" SPEAKING.
For hike/event/posters, the only requirement is that you must be certain the location is open/accessible. Please post a good address/GPS/ directions and, preferably your phone # (but not necessary)-so you can be contacted last minute. Any direct e-mail/phone contacts for anything other than event info. just prior to event is prohibited unless you get prior permission from the person.
More than one hike event for the same day. If you aren’t able to travel to a hike/event, go ahead and post one closer to you.There can be multiple events for the same day (up to 4). To post just follow the cues (begin with red icon on left side pg.)follow the prompts.
Other activities have been local wineries for evening of listening to music, free plays/concerts in the park, music fairs, camping, kayaking, bicycling, dinner-touring downtowns, festivals (including First Night Events), baseball games, including playing ourselves, comedy shows, movies, rafting the Lehigh River, flower gardens, Grounds for Sculpture, NY events/festivals, museums, laser tag, planetariums, sight-seeing. Will do fireworks, a dinner cruise around Manhattan, NY plays, Holiday trip to NY, NY Plays.
If we get lost on ahike (as we sometimes do)no problem, we'll figure it out together. If the hike/activity is a bust, no problem-we’ll go to lunch and have a good time anyway. We’re primarily getting together for the friendship, fun, exercise and of course the laughs. We are not hard partiers but do enjoy a funtime.
Please do "NOT" rsvp NO if not attending an event, only if you plan on attending. But if you did rsvp-you are expected to attend (barring unforeseen circumstances)and if you did rsvp and can't make it change your rsvp back to no, so we can get a true headcount at the activity site/and allow wait-listers to take your place. THIS GOES ESPECIALLY FOR ACTIVITIES WHERE # ATTENDEES IS LIMITED/where you should let us know as much in advance as possible.
Important/ I Repeat-Any additional event costs need to be collected PRIOR to making reservations and will NOT be reimbursed. Neither will any other unforeseen costs-so, if you are posting/leading an event take this into account and plan well.
