Day six, No electric. It's cold..it's ok,  My home was destroyed by Irene last year, My first floor was wiped out, I lost a lot of irreplaceable possessions. I did not replace the wall to wall, or sheetrock,
(it's a raised ranch home)
I'm so sad for what had happened here, I love Jersey and especially our shore towns. I feel for the people dealing with the aftermath, I spend 3 months dealing with mold and a foot of water in my home. Insurance didn't cover it.
But, it does pass, things get fixed and life does get back to normal. My kids and family were all safe and well Thank God. Still have working batteries and a car charger for my phone. My boys and I were left here by their father, ( my husband of 27 yrs) he had never even inquired either time if we ( or the home ) was OK. So, not only is this difficult, but we also have to deal with it alone. It does make you realize how truly resilient we are.

I made this suggestion to my Facebook friends... My house is still under water.... My daughter & I are still here because we have no where else to go and we have animals. My car went under as well so we can't even get somewhere that does have power. Right now, what you can do for those of us affected that may seem small to you but is huge to us, is, if you have a working washing machine/dryer, offer to do laundry. Almost everything we own is wet, moldy and/or covered in raw sewage and we have no way to wash it. We are wet, we are cold and we don't have much..... Clean, dry, unsmelly clothes, sheets & towels would be such an amazing comfort. So if you have friends who are affected and don't know how to help, I can promise you that just doing their laundry if you are able will be a huge help. My neighborhood was destroyed by this disaster.... So many things that people take for granted are now amazing luxuries for us.... Clean clothes & hot showers.... So anything you can do to help people like us feel a little more normal and human again will mean more than you know.
