Re: [divorcesupport-298] Make Sure to have a Holiday Intention Plan for the next seven weeks!

Just a suggestion to those who feel displaced this Thanksgiving:  I spent my first Thanksgiving after I got divorced with my friends from the divorce group I was attending at the time.  We all cooked together and brought dishes of our favorite Thanksgiving foods.

It may seem odd not to spend a traditional Thanksgiving with your families, but often they just don't understand or have a clue what you are going through.  It also reduces the feeling of  loss of doing something traditional without your significant other, because it is a new experience to you and you only.  If you are the parent who does not have visitation for this holiday; it is a good distraction. I have seen many house party Meetups in this group, maybe someone can be a home base this holiday.

There is a light at the end of the tunnel and there are no short cuts unfortunately, but you will find it eventually.

Subject: [divorcesupport-298] Make Sure to have a Holiday Intention Plan for the next seven weeks!

Greetings everyone - I know that Hurricane Sandy, the flooding, the power outages and the Snowstorm have added many levels of stress to everyones lives and now we begin the end of the year holiday season next thursday with Thanksgiving - if this is your first year end as a newly single or recently separated parent there are added stress levels more than you normally get this time of year.

I just want to send a shout out to the handful of people who joined over the last few days to push us to 1,700 newly single members strong (Vinny, Rita, Patti, Renee S, Antoinette, Alex, Eileen, Michele K, Rita and Eileen Y) I encourage everyone ot take advantage of this wonderful group of friends who will support you and help you get thru life's challenges - "GET OUT OF THE HOUSE AND AWAY FROM ANY NEGATIVE THOUGHTS IN YOUR MIND AND GO TO A MEETUP OR CREATE ONE OF YOUR OWN!"

We have had some new members step up and post and host some fun events in the next few weeks - Patirica R and Dana - THANK YOU for being proactive - Anyone can suggest an event to get people out

I read a great e-mail from a lady Laura Campbell who has a website called the Discover the D-Spot.

Check it out at

She advises that you create a HOLIDAY INTENTION PLAN to help you get through the next few weeks:

Here is a sample of what she has to say:

I know, it is hard to believe that Thanksgiving in next week! How did we get here when it was just summer? I also know that you have a lot on your plate. Moving from married life to divorce lifestyle is never as profound as it is during the holiday season.

Holiday Budgets;
Custody Schedules;
Creating new holiday rituals;
Being alone on the holidays;
Gift giving;

These are only a few of the thoughts that may be on your mind. Not to mention that the holidays can bring on so many emotions; including sadness, loss, overwhelm, and stress.

But you have a choice. You can choose to move through the holidays and deal with the emotions, the stress and the decisions as they come up; OR, you can CHOOSE to take control of the next seven weeks.

I am a big believer in making things happen and creating the life that you want - there is nothing you can do to change the past and the future is not promised to anyone so I give all of you the GIFT OF TODAY for this holiday season - that is why it is called THE PRESENT
